Hi, I just wanted to know if SMF is WAP capable, and if so, is there anything I need to do to my server or webpage to make it accessible.

Thanks!

Yes. SMF has three different wireless interfaces:

WAP (.../index.php?wap)
WAP2 (.../index.php?wap2)
I-Mode (.../index.php?imode)

You don't need to do anything to your server to make it accessible.

Doesnt work for me either, dont really care though, im happy using Firefox.

I got an error when i tried wap, wap2 and imode just said request failed.

I get the "Compile Error" on wap. On wap2 and i-mode I get "Unacceptable content". I can get the error codes for you too if you wish, allthough i would think that they are specific to each phone...

It worked fine on my Nokia 3100 (wap2 and imode) last time I tried it (several months ago - dad had the phone company disable web access on my phone and my sister's phone after we ran up large bills in internet access fees). The only problem I remember was that it wasn't keeping the wap2 or imode flag in the URL when you replied, which caused problems, but I could still read posts.

Nokia 3410 for me, just gives the above notice, i dont sduppose it would matter im in the UK.

Only ?wap works on my 3510 and it has page numbers issues, ie it lists all the page numbers as defined in Features & Options rather than cutting it down for mobiles.

wap2 and imode are fine on my o2 XDA 2, but then since it runs ms pocket windows with pocket IE, you would expect that, wap2 and imode are also fine on most samsung phones. Unofrtunatly most cheapo nokias don't seem to support wap2 so cannot post replies but ahh well

Hi all,

just a quick update on WAPpiness... :)
I got a new (Samsung V200) phone for Christmas, and it still won't work with SMF. I tried putting the page through a validator (the w3 one), and I got an error that the <card id="2"> tag is invalid. Apparently, you have to start an ID tag with a letter, not a number. I think that's the problem.

I hope that helps!

Nope, WAP works fine, and for that phone type you would want to use WAP2 or IMODE.  The W3 validator checks html/xhtml, it does not check WAP, so running it through it is rather useless.

It does check XML, which is basically WAP. WAP2 won't work, and I haven't tried IMODE yet.

The problem with most phones is that they have a very limited set of rules they use to render the page. One small error (like an incorrect ID tag) can cause the phone to throw up any kind of irrelevant error. They are not like standard computers that can rearrange the code and add bits here and there to help the page to display properly.

If you are using a WAP emulator, that will ignore or correct errors.
