Please make these chages in the style.css file.

/* The main body of the entire forum. */
body
{
background: url("images/back.gif");
margin: 0px;
padding: 0px;
}

And please drop this background-image in the Themes/blackrain/images/ - folder..

Right click - and save this image as: or save link as: | back.gif | It's very small but does the trick, can you see the small black square??  (https://www.simplemachines.org/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.cripcan.com%2Fbtn%2Fback.gif&hash=b1cf45cac1b3e3ba510c337cddc8f43443dd3ace) ..
doing this Should fix the white area thats at the bottom of a page. :)

Thanks mate, it worked :D

Um another question... I've been trying to make the toplogo centralized, this is what I've done to try and get the logo in the middle rather than on the left (code extract from index.template.php. Third box down when viewed in admin center, and it's the logo part..) <body>';

   echo '
   <div id="wrap">
      <table width="600px" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" border="0">
         <tr>
            <td>';

   if (empty($settings['header_logo_url']))
      echo '
            <a href="index.php">center<img align="center" src="', $settings['images_url'], '/bodybg.png" title="OnFire!!" alt="OnFire!!" /></center></a>';
   else
      echo '
              <center> <img src="', $settings['header_logo_url'], '" alt="', $context['forum_name'], '" />';

   echo '
</center>            </td>
         </tr>
      </table>
(think I've made a bit of a mess of the code now :P sorry about that). Could you show me what it is that I need to change to make it centralized

Also, is there a way the buttons can be centralized as well? (haven't touched the script for the buttons... Didn't know where to start, though thats probably a good thing :))

Thanks for your help  :)

You made a mess didn't you. lol.. ;)
Just add this to center the logo:

<a href="', $scripturl, '"><center><img src="', $settings['images_url'], '/brlogo.gif" style="margin: 2px;" title="Black Rain" alt="Black Rain" /></center></a>';

Thanks Crip.  This worked perfectly on both the SMF Theme and the TP Theme.

It took a minute but I also figured out that adding something on the following line would allow a non-default / provided image url to be centered.

<center><img src="', $settings['header_logo_url'], '" style="margin: 4px;" alt="', $context['forum_name'], '" />';

Overall a very nice theme, it even worked with the Ad Management mod without searching.
You might want to post how to add new buttons for everyone.
This is what I will be spending my afternoon doing.

Hi Crip love the theme, though I am having a couple of small problems with it.

(https://www.simplemachines.org/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1.tinypic.com%2F48drfv5.jpg&hash=9961194b0eee7b520564b5a7346119882f191dd9)

I believe this is the message(PM) button but i cant seem to make it fully visible? This screen shot is in firefox, in IE it is smaller.

Also the image for the Add Poll function does not show.

Thanks in advance. :D

@ denchomsky -
All I can think of is the Theme is RC3 only.. your 1.0.8 version maynot be compadable..but I'm not sure thats the problem..but I have saw none of the errors you mention.. maybe you should upgrade?

I can't reproduce the same errors either, non existant on my Forum?

Firstly, great theme.

Secondly, I added a button to the theme to take me back to the website from the forum

Thirdly, I added a new $txt[1007](the $txt[1007] is a dash -) to the index.english.php, and added that $txt[1007] before and after each button name. So, instead of it just saying 'Home', it now says "-Home-"

What I would like to do is change $txt[1007]'s font to red, and leave the rest untouched.

How do I do this?

if you noticed, I use your theme Black Rain

www.gtac-club.com/forum (http://www.gtac-club.com/forum)

I use resolution 1280x1024.  Where in the index.template would I place the code to have the banner I have be centered.  As well as the menu buttons.

I have tried centering them with what ever code I know, but nothing wants to work.

How did you get it Ad Management to work?

I cannot seem to accomplish it? Did you edit the index.template file?

Also, how do I add a html link to my own logo I have added?

To add all button links on the Theme menu for example My Messages button:

// Go to PM center... [pm]
if ($context['user']['is_logged'] && $context['allow_pm'])
echo '<li><a href="', $scripturl, '?action=pm"><span>' , $txt['pm_short'] , ' ', $context['user']['unread_messages'] > 0 ? '[<strong>'. $context['user']['unread_messages'] . '</strong>]' : '' , '</span></a></li>';

Just be sure to put the [<li> * </li>] * [<span> * </span>] in the correct place as the example above is showing. .. hope is bit helps. :)

I just updated to the latest version of Black Rain and I'm having an issue with how it appears in IE7 and I'm not sure whether it's an IE7 issue or something with the forum.

It lookcs great in Firefox 2, but in IE7 it's too wide for the browser window and therefore ends up having scrollbars.  My zoom in IE7 is 100% so it isn't that.  I'm not sure what else to check.  Any help is appreciated.

EDIT: I'm pretty sure it's not an IE7 issue.  I've had several complaints from forum users having the same trouble.  Anyone else run into this?

Thanks!
Jacob

Nice theme. Minor details could use a touch up:

Some of the backgrounds in the css render in blue. .titlebg, tr.titlebg th, tr.titlebg td, .titlebg2, tr.titlebg2 th, tr.titlebg2 td You can see it is obvious when a page is rendered a little slow. It looks really odd. I replaced it with #696969

This theme seems to be non xhtml compliant both times I installed it. Just a minor note since it is rendering fine in Opera., IE and Firefox. I mean why have the links at the bottom if they are not compliant ;-) I fixed the problem on my board.

Also the css is not compliant as well.

x-repeat (should be repeat-x)
and one of the width declarations was missing a semi colon.

Here is my new css file if you want to compare the differences.

Thanks!
Jacob

That's a big trouble of mine too, CRIP, please help

It's unclear to me but it sounds like the board is too wide for your browser. This theme has a fixed width. It can render odd depending on someone's screen resolution.

You can try to edit this part where it says width 1000px:

#wrap {
margin: 0 auto 0 auto;
text-align: left;
width: 1000px;
border: 1px solid #000000;
background-color: #222222;
padding: 0px 30px 30px 30px;
}

I usually prefer using % percentages instead of fixed pixels. You could try :

width: 85%;

or if you still like fixed width:
width: 780px;

I tested it briefly and works quite well even on 800x600 resolution...

Hello All,

Long time no see and hope everybody is doing well.

I'm having a question or little problem about the beautiful BlackRain theme. Although Im using it happily already for a long time I experience a problem now as I actually I didn't really notice before but several visitors mentioned and now I start to notice it too. :P

The margin between the title of a quote and the real quote is a bit too large. I also did some editting at the quote part of the css file but doesn't help. See the screen shot please.

If this has been discussed please let me know. as at this moment I'm too lazy and tired to even go look for it but I will use the search option if necessary another day. ;) So there's no hurry.

The code I have now:
/* A quote, perhaps from another post. */
.quote
{
        background-color: #505050;
        color: #d0d0ff;
        border: 1px solid #808080;
        border-left: 1px solid #a0a0a0;
        margin: 0px;
        padding: 0px;
        font-size: x-small;
        white-space: nowrap;
        overflow: auto;
}

Link to a message where you can clearly see it.

By the way: I'm not using the latest version of neither the SMF or Tiny portal module nor the Theme as they all work fine in general.

Thanks in advance.

By the way, the issue mentioned is only in Internet Explorer, latest version en IE 6.0 latest edition.

Firefox is no problem.

Already figured out guys! ;)

It was in the Quote header part:

Added: width: 99%; to it and now works fine in IE as well!

Code is now:

/* The "Quote:" and "Code:" header parts... */
.quoteheader, .codeheader
{
        color: #e0e0e0;
        text-decoration: none;
        margin: 0px;
        padding: 1px;
width: 99%; <-----------That one. ;)
        font-style: normal;
        font-weight: bold;
        font-size: x-small;
        white-space: wrap;
        overflow: auto;
}

Fantastic theme! I really like it! Just 2 things:

You should really set the width to 90% in stead of 1100. You are really cancelling out the many 1024 x 768 users with that. (easily fixed)

Can I have the originals of the buttons and the font used on them (or even better the PSD/PDN whatever) so I can make a dutch version of them?

-edit: Never mind about the buttons. It appears you use cerebus style buttons. Anyone could make them with the Button Generator (http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php?page=13).

Hello, i was just after some help: I have a xbox live gametag script, and it works fine, but when i try and pt my tag in my profile it shows in an iframe because the profile field isn't long enough to allow it, i was just wondering, how do i stretch the profile field out a little bit? and make the text part smaller? heres a pic of what i mean:

Hiya, this theme is one of the best for SMF in my opinion.  Just two issues, 1. I really would like to centralize the buttons, and most importantly 2. I use a lot of mods and the buttons don't work properly when you have more than a single row of them can you fix this?
thanks.

I don't remember saying that. If I did I no longer need a fix for that issue.

Is there a way to add an extra row of buttons? because when you have lots of features you need lots of buttons. Cheers mate,

The Visual verification images will not work under this theme. They do work under the SMF default theme. Any clues where to start looking for this?

I posted this in General Support before I saw this topic <sry>:

I am having trouble adding the Gallery Button to the Black Rain theme.

I have searched through the forums and tried a could of the solutions but none seem to work.  I have looked for the array line to add the posted code but I do not have any array line in my theme's index.template.php.  I have tried adding:
// Gallery
    echo '<li><a href="', $scripturl, '?action=gallery"><span>*Gallery*</span></a></li>';

but every variation causes an error that says something like "Can not load main_above template"

I did manage to get the link to appear by copying some of the code from the default theme but it didn't appear like the other buttons and to be honest, that was so many attempts ago I'm not sure what I did.

In my last attempt, I tried to just copy the index.template that another member posted that had the gallery working with Black Rain but it too caused the "main_above" error.

I am not familiar with PHP but could really use some help with this.

Thanks!

I have used your Back-N-Black theme for several years & was looking to make a change.  I just installed Black Rain V.2 and everything seems to work just fine except one image.  Here is screenshots of the problem.

(https://www.simplemachines.org/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi147.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fr301%2Fkeirawen%2Fstuff%2F1.jpg&hash=40f8aa50e0068d7abd01beef0a1e8567541a1a8f)

This image which is usually the "on" or "off" image is broken.
On the main page it works just fine, but on all the subcategories it doesn't show.

(https://www.simplemachines.org/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi147.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fr301%2Fkeirawen%2Fstuff%2F2.jpg&hash=151a9a3258a23cbf5f558491c6565ce622d552c7)

When I right click to see what the problem is it shows this.  Can you help?  Is there a broken script somewhere I need to fix?
PS:  I removed my URL to prevent spammers.

Thanks in advance.   :D

Hi, great theme, but one question:

How can I add a text (eg Board Name and Titel) next to the Logo at the top? Where do I have to add it?

It should look something like the way my standard theme looks like: www.arcor-user-forum.de

My forum with BlackRain atm: http://www.arcor-user-forum.de/index.php?theme=5

The problem is that I use the old theme for smf 2.0 beta but the buttons like "insert link" or smileys don't work.
When I or the users click on them nothing happens.
Do you have any idea how I could fix this problem without using another theme?

I think something with the html codes (or whatever those codes are) isn't correct...

index.template.php, paste some code : all -- > or part of :

// Only tell them about their messages if they can read their messages!
if ($context['allow_pm'])
echo $txt[152], ' <a href="', $scripturl, '?action=pm">', $context['user']['messages'], ' ', $context['user']['messages'] != 1 ? $txt[153] : $txt[471], '</a>', $txt['newmessages4'], ' ', $context['user']['unread_messages'], ' ', $context['user']['unread_messages'] == 1 ? $txt['newmessages0'] : $txt['newmessages1'] , '.<br />';

echo '<a href="', $scripturl, '?action=unread">', $txt['unread_since_visit'], '</a><br /><a href="', $scripturl, '?action=unreadreplies">', $txt['show_unread_replies'], '</a><br />';

}
// Otherwise they're a guest - this time ask them to either register or login - lazy bums...
else
{
echo '
', $txt['welcome_guest'], '
<script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript" src="', $settings['default_theme_url'], '/sha1.js"></script>
<form action="', $scripturl, '?action=login2" method="post" accept-charset="', $context['character_set'], '" style="margin: 4px 0;"', empty($context['disable_login_hashing']) ? ' onsubmit="hashLoginPassword(this, \'' . $context['session_id'] . '\');"' : '', '>
<input type="text" name="user"  size="10" />
<input type="password" name="passwrd"  size="10" />
<input type="submit" value="', $txt[34], '" />
<input type="hidden" name="hash_passwrd" value="" />
</form>', $context['current_time'],'<br />';
}

be careful or you'll get a parse error.. ;)

try adding text only and not::', $scripturl, '?action=gallery"><span>' , $txt['smf_gallery'], '</span></li></a>';
but something like so::', $scripturl, '?action=gallery"><span>Gallery</span></li></a>';
......sometimes this way works.

Hello! I have a quick question

I have slightly modified the header for this theme leaving only the logo, and the menu below it (removed the search, Hello "name" etc)... Right now, everything is aligned to the left but is there a way to center the logo / menu?

Here is the code I have so far, I've tried everything I can think of, but im still learning the basics of how this stuff works LOL! If anyone can help me figure this out I'd be greatly appreciative =)

<?php
// Version: 1.1; index

/* This template is, perhaps, the most important template in the theme. It
contains the main template layer that displays the header and footer of
the forum, namely with main_above and main_below. It also contains the
menu sub template, which appropriately displays the menu; the init sub
template, which is there to set the theme up; (init can be missing.) and
the linktree sub template, which sorts out the link tree.

The init sub template should load any data and set any hardcoded options.

The main_above sub template is what is shown above the main content, and
should contain anything that should be shown up there.

The main_below sub template, conversely, is shown after the main content.
It should probably contain the copyright statement and some other things.

The linktree sub template should display the link tree, using the data
in the $context['linktree'] variable.

The menu sub template should display all the relevant buttons the user
wants and or needs.

I'm not a big fan of the new quote-box in Black Rain for SMF 2.0 (it was changed, wasn't it?), so I'd like to use the one in Black Rain 2 (http://custom.simplemachines.org/themes/index.php?lemma=348) instead. Can this be done with a simple copy+paste of code?

</your code for box theme>

Hi all,

Sorry if this is a noobish question, i did search this thread and didn't see anything about it ... so here goes:

When I'm in the admin area, are there supposed to be graphical buttons for the different tabs? eg, on the Server Settings screen, the tabs Core Config, Feature Config and Caching are plain text links ... and they kind of run into each other making it hard to tell where one stops and the next starts.

or do i have a botched install or something?

Perhaps a screenie will help clarify what i mean ... in the shot below, are the functions in the red circle supposed to appear as text links like that? Or are they supposed to appear as graphical buttons like the functions in the green circle?

I have used until now your great design and want to change to smf 2.x.
But the design looks not so good as before.

Can you say me, how i can make the text larger and how i can remove the lines about every post? Best would be, when it look nearly exactly like in smf 1.1.x. can you make that?
And how can i make a own table for posts and topics? i have used this: http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=259454.0 until now, but its not compatible with smf 2.0

i will try now myself to edit style.css, but i think i need some tips from you. thanks :P

i just changes the theme bcoz of few problems

one is the when i use black rain theme the site becomes big so user need to do horizonal scroling in orer to go right

2nd is the when i want to upload any new package or theme then when i selcte the file using brows button the path is shhown using white letter as well as background is also white so i can not the the path there

3rd is when i install any new packages it makes little changes in options that is it addes new options for admin  but the text is black and theme is also black so i can not read it and to read that i need to switch to smf core theme or any other theme ,,,

if above probles get rectified then this theme will work gr8

Hey Crip, I love this theme but I was wondering if you could tell me what I need to edit to fix this.
Here is an example:
(https://www.simplemachines.org/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg207.imageshack.us%2Fimg207%2F7216%2Fbrsk7.png&hash=9380525be8e323ad33f0c336722a77ab0c7e2203)

The green box is what I would like everything to look like. With a space. The red boxes are the problem.

This is how some feature options get displayed:

News and newsletters: "News NewslettersSettings"
Packages: "Browse Packages Download PackagesInstalled Packages Options"
Features and Options: "Basic Features Layout and OptionsKarma"
Server Settings: "Core Configuration Feature ConfigurationCaching"
Current Theme: "Manage and Install Themes and SettingsReset OptionsModify Themes"
And so on

I've also noticed that it doesn't always display it inaccurately. Sometimes only the last two options of a feature with be pushed together while other times there separated with a space and other words will be pushed together. I think theres a method to it I just can't figure it out.

The screenshot shows how it displays on a freshly installed 1.1.6 with the black rain theme. The only thing I edited was the font color, changed a couple buttons around, and the page width.

I was wanting to know if you can tell me what to edit in ether the style.css or the index files?

Thanks
:D

Ohh well i mean that in order to see the very right end of the website you have to scroll the bar. I was hoping that the whole page could be seen without scrolling the bar (iam only talking about the right side). Do you understand?

If you still don't clearly understand what i mean, please check here: http://i38.tinypic.com/b7nn94.jpg

Iam sure you will now understand what i mean.

Yes, I understand and others have the same issues   .......
Did you know BR theme has Width Adjustment ? ... it's always been there since it was made :  :

Ever saw this code ? ::

#wrap {
margin: 0 auto 0 auto;
text-align: left;
width: 79%;
border: 7px solid #000000;
background-color: #222222;
padding: 0px 30px 30px 30px;
}

? width: 79%; and padding: 0px 30px 30px 30px; can adjust the theme basically to any size , width: can be 750px; or 90%;
........kind of self explanatory don't ya think?

Firstly, thank you! Great theme!!

Second. I'm trying to make a very slight modification. I've looked everywhere in the css and the images etc but I cannot find the answer. I hope somebody can help me!

I want to alter the 2 alternating colors that appear in the threads so that they look a bit more in contrast. When do I make such a change? I'm not sure if this is an image somewhere, a table color code or what. Thanks to anyone offering help to me!!

I like the theme Crip,

I want to add a chat button to the theme, how do I do this in the code.

Using SMF 1.17 with Black Rain 117 and you wouldn't happen to have a graphic button I can use too. don't worry if you haven't.

Thanks in advance

Title: Re: Black Rain
Post by: stocktiger on February 23, 2009, 12:59:30 PM
I  use 2 RC1  - love the black rain looks

A couple of things I would like to fix

When uploading an attachment and you select a file - in the browser box the file name shows in white instead of black so you rally cannot see it

(https://www.simplemachines.org/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.fileden.com%2Ffiles%2F2006%2F9%2F9%2F209573%2Fattach.png&hash=2473c52db3fe2c2a68eca39912e82a9c65c8726a)

I had a user write to say he could not change his password. I looked at the link and at that time - also any text entered was in white so people did not think the test was being entered - this screen shot however it is black but it normally is white

(https://www.simplemachines.org/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.fileden.com%2Ffiles%2F2006%2F9%2F9%2F209573%2Fchangepa7.png&hash=f56b2694c12dd4a8943c88c01db19d0fd3dc32bf)

When making a post the text in the edit window is very small so hard to correct - how can we make it larger?

(https://www.simplemachines.org/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.fileden.com%2Ffiles%2F2006%2F9%2F9%2F209573%2Fpostw.png&hash=f62ca93d2070ad6dc412e70a56bbca193d127d09)

New use registration the name boxes are black and the password are white so you cannot see that you are typing a password - would like to fix this

(https://www.simplemachines.org/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.fileden.com%2Ffiles%2F2006%2F9%2F9%2F209573%2Fregs.png&hash=825ab4928fe687a9e7525ec7a5383f9424cdc506)

Thanks a lot super theme

Crip

Thanks for the update. Is it possible to say which files have changes as we cannot just overwrite our files as it would destroy alll the changes we have made.

This is a problem I have had three times so far very strange.

I lose the css file - I look at the page and it is all white and just exactly the same as if you had removed the css. I looked and the file was there but I did not open it - I will next time so see what is up. Anyway I just copied my css over the one there and all was ok but I have to stop it. Is there something that is overwriting the file - maybe on a scheduled basis? Like the RSS reader

Also at the top under the users name we see this

(https://www.simplemachines.org/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fpremium.fileden.com%2Fpremium%2F2006%2F9%2F9%2F209573%2Funread.png&hash=4e693be147ceb4e1d1fccd49079f0830b00b8464)

In my former theme it also showed the number of PMs there were total and how many new. There does not seem to be room here but if those 4 lines were just let to run there would be only 2 so plenty of room for another Line.

thanks

It happened again that the style.css was not being seen I guess as late in the afternoon the SMF lost all its formatting and I only overwrote the style.css in the BlackRain root and it was back. I saved the one that was not being "seen" and they look the same- guess I will have to use some ckid of compare file program to see how they are different.

Have to find out what is causing this of course - maybe i need to make it a ran only ?

The other strange thing that happens when this takes place is that while you can still upload an attachment - you can do only one because if you click on to add another it will not open an additional space to browse....

Title: Re: Black Rain
Post by: stocktiger on March 09, 2009, 12:46:19 PM
I was able to fix two problems

One was when you browse to a file for an attachment it was white on white background. To fix that I added this to style.css

/* Change browse to file text color */

input[type="file"]
{
       color: black;
}

To fix the font size only on the post window text box when you are posting it I changed to size here

textarea {
background: #333333;
border: 1px solid #000000;
color: white;
font-family: verdana, helvetica, sans-serif;
font-size: 14px;
}

Still have not found where to change the text color for password entry for users and for admins when going to admin panel as now it is often black on black

Would also like to move some of the "forum stats" like the number of users back up to the top right where it used to be

thanks a lot

Still using your theme, except I just installed TP 1.0 beta 4...anyway, I've tried about 4 different suggestions on how to center the menu and 3 of the 4 didn't do anything and one actually expanded the entire forum and left the top panels centered.  Any way, found your post here and asking if you can assist on the menu centering.

Ha ha ha. Yep, that would work, that is until you realise that the rest of the text is in white. Cheeky.

The general text is in white, but the text for polls and the shoutbox feature in Simple Portal is in black. I've been through the CSS file for Black Rain, but I'll check some others later.

Until then, does anyone else have any idea as to where I can find it?

Actually, what function brings up the poll text? If I can find that I might be able to trace it bact to where the color is set.

Can someone help me with a few things regarding this BlackRain theme?

I'm using SMF 2.0 RC1.2

I am trying to make changes to two things withing the board index of this theme.  I want to put images as my board titles which have a background that spans across 4 images and will connect when the images are placed on top of each other.  But I run in to two problems when attempting to do this.

I put the hyperlinked board title images in the DESCRIPTION box of "modify board" but I cannot figure out how to remove the TEXT LINKS which still appear above each image on the board index.  How do I remove the original board title links without messing up their identity on the rest of the board?  I tried putting the image link in the Board Title box instead of description but that messes all of the indexing up and shows the image wherever that board title appears obviously.

The second problem is figuring out how to remove the PADDING from the board index so that the images will connect.  I want it so that the backgrounds of the board title images will connect on their tops and bottoms.

Here is an exact example of what I want to do.  Although it seems to be a different theme you can at least tell what I'm trying to do.

newgnr.com/forum/index.php

I want there to be no padding and no board title links.  Just images as links.  Any help is appreciated.

with several mods, flashchat, custom action mod, etc

I have lost my visual verification using this theme, it works fine in the default theme but not in BRv2 can someone point me in the right direction as to why this maybe happening?

There are some minor bugs. I'll mention them here so that you can fix them. (SMF2RC2)

Large text is not displayed correctly. For example the bottom part of 'y' is not displayed. The problem gets worse when you place large text in a marquee.

Some images are missing:
mirrortab_active_back.gif
mirrortab_last.gif
mirrortab_active_first.gif
mirrortab_active_last.gif
mirrortab_first.gif
admintab_back.gif
admintab_active_right.gif
admintab_active_left.gif
admintab_right.gif
admintab_left.gif
(this means i get a 404 for the above images when using the Black Rain theme)

Thank you for the theme. I like it :D.

Same here on the width. Seems fixed... doesn't re-size with the browser window. Entering a width in the theme settings doesn't seem to make any difference.

Is this truly a fixed width theme? I believe it re-sized before?

I am using V2 as well.  It is present in all versions of smf.  I have personally changed it that way and it works.  Enter it in percentages.  Ex:  90%.  You must enter the percentage sign.

I tried using pixels dimensions and percentages (50%, 75% & 90%) and neither had any effect on how the forum was displayed.

To do the thing with the images and text links.  You need to first change what background style each category is going to use in the Themes\default\BoardIndex.template.php file.  That's the file and location for 2.0 RC2.  I'm assuming it's similar for RC1.  I hope.

Anyway.  The way it works is that since categories can be created and deleted, the background style is generically generated between two alternating styles.  These two styles are identified and created in the Themes\default\[theme name]\css\index.css file.  For RC2 it is .windowbg and .windowbg2 .  To do what you need, you may have to create several background style definitions of your own then work it out in the board index php file.  Main reason is that .windowbg and .wondowbg2 styles are also used for alternating topic list (when viewing a board), post background styles, and single page generation (like the Help page, etc).  As you can see, it would be a rather complex ordeal.

Good luck.

Then you need to edit it in the index.css file.  Are you familiar with css?

Somewhat... I'll check it out. Thanks.

No problem.  It should be located somewhere in the beginning of the file.  When you modify the width in admin, it probably doesn't work because Crip has a specific width set in the css file.  It seems that the css file specifications take precedence over soft mods made using the admin center.  I think that if you remove the width setting altogether from the css file that the soft mod will work for you.  That or you can modify it in the css file directly from now on.  Your choice.

It's near the bottom of teh css/index.css

#br_wrap {
width: 1240px;         <===Set your Width Here===>
background-color: #222222;
border: 1px solid #000;
margin: 0 auto;
padding: 0px 30px 30px 30px;
}

One more quick question if I may, Crip... After adjusting the width of the forum, the left column in any topic (where the user avatar, name, post count etc. is) is too wide. I've tried to find this setting in the index.css with no luck. I'm sure I'm just overlooking it. Could you give me pointer? I get that fixed and Black Rain will be the default theme on the forum again!  :)

Thanks!

Crip,

Got a user with an odd issue with the signature block over-lapping topics...he's detailed it in the following post on my forum along with screen shots and browser version info. etc.

http://www.motleypixel.com/forum/index.php/topic,410.0.html

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Hi!

First thanks for this theme, looks very nice.

But it seems there are some leftovers from another theme in the index.css, because i get some errors about this missing files in my apache errorlog:

maintab_first.gif
maintab_last.gif
mirrortab_first.gif
mirrortab_back.gif
mirrortab_last.gif

and this files are not included in BlackRain202.

Is it safe to remove remove all references to this file in the index.css?

Thanks in advance for a reply.

that is what I thought you meant
chat and arcade are in my default theme..along with a shop button which I forgot to mention
but it did not auto make a button for them when I installed this theme.

I was able to make the 3 buttons in PaintshopPro

I also think I put something in the wrong place so uninstalled and about to reinstall to try again

Find in Sourses/Subs.php --

// All the buttons we can possible want and then some, try pulling the final list of buttons from cache first.
if (($menu_buttons = cache_get_data('menu_buttons-' . implode('_', $user_info['groups']) . '-' . $user_info['language'], $cacheTime)) === null || time() - $cacheTime <= $modSettings['settings_updated'])
{
$buttons = array(
'home' => array(
'title' => $txt['home'],
'href' => $scripturl,
'show' => true,
'sub_buttons' => array(
),
'is_last' => $context['right_to_left'],
// 'target' => '_blank',
),
'help' => array(
'title' => $txt['help'],
'href' => $scripturl . '?action=help',
'show' => true,
'sub_buttons' => array(

),

Add your links there..they will appear in all themes you have installed.

gonna try again.

this code makes the button
echo '<li', $current_action == 'chat' ? ' id="chosen"' : '', '><a href="', $scripturl, '?action=chat"><span>' , $txt[chat] , '</span></a></li>';

this code makes the orange text link

I have just installed BlackRain on 2.0RC3 and it is a great theme, nice work!!!!

The one thing i am trying to do and cant figure out is how to change the arrays: Reply
Add poll  Notify  Mark unread  Send this topic Print
and
Move Topic  Remove Topic  Lock topic  Set topic sticky  Merge Topics  Link to Calendar

to have custom button images instead of text with the maintab and admintab etc on them

I have managed to remove the images now so they are simply text, but cant find where i can replace the text with images

any help greatly appreciated, thanks

2. Fonts are too big

i give up.... i have tried everything to change the logo...

i have edited the brlogo.gif, i have used the Logo image URL function.. NOTHING WORKS

i-m using:

Version Information:
Forum version: SMF 1.1.11
Current SMF version: SMF 1.1.11

anyone ? i really like this theme, but it-s useless if the Black Rain logo doesn-t get removed...

many thanks!!

alios: Have you tried creating your own image, saving it as brlogo.gif and uploading it to the images folder of the theme?

Alternatively, you could upload a different file and edit the index.template.php file to point to your new logo, which is what I did. You may have to alter the size of your image though. I did this by adding width="50%" to the relevant line, so that my edited file now looks like this:

<body>';
echo '
<div id="wrap">
<table width="100%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" border="0">
<tr>
<td>';
echo '
<a href="', $scripturl, '" title=""><img src="', $settings['images_url'], '/Image1.png" width="50%" style="margin: 2px;" alt=""/></a>';

Mine now reads Image1.png instead of brlogo.gif, which also means that I can easily change it back if I need to.

Hope this helps :)

Yes, I understand and others have the same issues   .......
Did you know BR theme has Width Adjustment ? ... it's always been there since it was made :  :

Ever saw this code ? ::

#wrap {
margin: 0 auto 0 auto;
text-align: left;
width: 79%;
border: 7px solid #000000;
background-color: #222222;
padding: 0px 30px 30px 30px;
}

? width: 79%; and padding: 0px 30px 30px 30px; can adjust the theme basically to any size , width: can be 750px; or 90%;
........kind of self explanatory don't ya think?

The CSS files are huge huge - where is that code?  When you change the width of the forum in the SMF interface it does nothing - I now have RC3  but in RC2 Black Rain either resized or it at least could fit on a page with no scrolling.

The other thing is once again in password boxes you cannot see anything - all is black - I think I fixed this in the past???

A while a go somebody adviced me using Firebug for Firefox for css related matters and I kept using it ever since so I can really recommend it.
You can change things and see the result realtime. So you can easily find out what part of the code changes what functions and so on.
And if you want it more advance and edit like straight in the main css file you can also use webdevelopper (also a firefox plugin).
That one I started using since a a while but as said that one is a bit more advance and offers really alot of easy functions.

BR / css/index.css near the bottom set width here :

#br_wrap
{
width: 1290px;
margin: 0 auto;
padding: 0px 30px 30px 30px;
background: #222;
border: 1px solid #000;
}

Thanks a lot Crip -- it was set at 1280px - I see it works at px or a % like 66% etc  - helpful as I looked a long time for it.

Another setting question - the top of main page where the picture logo is - like on this forum it is simple machines - that horizontal strip - which file controls it  - it is too tall and I would rather put my logo lower. Thanks so much  - I did all this 2 years ago and forgot it..

The space between the left hand column where the persons name and avatar is and the start of the post is very wide. Is there a way to make is narrower so there is more width for posts that may have images?

Just seems like a lot of wasted space and for wider images you have to use scroll bar.

thanks a lot

n  We are talking about changing the URL of the image at the top left (usually) of a forum. I looked in all parts of index.template.php  and I see no mention of my image or any reference to a URL - what section is it in?  If using SMF to look at this template it divides it up into 8 sections for easy viewing --

thanks a lot

Sorry Crip, I've only just seen your reply. It worked brilliantly, thank you!  ;D

Metro: If you're using SMF to edit the file, it's under the section that starts on line 59, and is roughly half way down. Mine now looks like this, since I changed the image and added the link:

<body>';
   echo '
   <div id="wrap">
      <table width="100%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" border="0">
         <tr>
            <td>';
      echo '
      <a href="http://www.cwmamanmusicfestival.co.uk/"', $scripturl, '" title="Cwmaman Music Festival"><img src="', $settings['images_url'], '/image1.png" width="50%" style="margin: 2px;" alt=""/></a>';

If you look for brlogo.gif, that's the correct line. I changed mine to image1.png to make it easier to change back if I needed to :)

Tippon  thanks  - found it on line 172  - my I am using 2.0 RC3 and my editor breaks them up differently so I just scanned the file to find my logo image. Now I know shy it was hard to find

<a href=', $scripturl, '" title="

I had to remove what was there after href -- I had been looking for an http - but of course not there.  So now the image has URL of main site.

I noticed that your space between the posters info on left and the left had margin of test is normal - small while mine is too large - have to figure out how to close the space up

Examples below

I did a search  and did not fine find on this topic  - I wan to install Sitemap  http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=755  (http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=755)

and did the test install and it failed on Themes/blackrain203/index.template.php    but the other files it said would be fine
I found the problem  a misspelling at the bottom

index.template.php  black rain 203
mplate.php myself  but the word copyright is spelled wrong in the index.template I have....

The one they are looking for

<li class="copyright">', theme_copyright(), '</li>

The one I have

<li class="copywrite">', theme_copyright(), '</li>

I corrected the spelling and all ok site map works

but I did delete a bit by mistake  and my copy is older

after

<li class="copyright">', theme_copyright(), '
but before the closing      </li>

These was some test and href for ads ans create a site -  also some code so now on teh bottom of my forum the link    # BlackRain 2006, 2010, by Crip   Crip is in the orange color fine but the first prt is in white

so if someone will post that  full line  many thanks  - on mine it is line 396

was not added

anyway I wanted to point out the spelling error - is is spelled correctly two times but not the last time

I will have to try and figure our how to make the sitemap work

Hi, I was directed to post here as the problem I'm having is theme-related. I'll just repost:

Quote from: billowingwillows on January 04, 2012, 11:11:38 AM
Hello, new to all of this, I recently installed SMF 2.0.1, and I'm using the "Black Rain" theme by Crip. When I go to register a new user, I encounter the following problem with the user name field and the password fields. The email address field works correctly - you start typing, every letter displays, you move onto the next field, and you still see the text there, just like you'd expect.
But the user name field? You start typing in it, and, as you're typing, all the characters remain, but when you're done and you click out of the field, all the characters disappear. If you run the mouse across to field to copy the content, then you find it. But as soon as you click onto something else, it isn't displaying. Same thing for the password field, with the exception that, as you're typing, it never displays any of those round dots at all. If you highlight the text afterward, it shows them.

I'm imagining the problem owes itself to the way the scripts run to verify if the user name has been used and if the passwords match. This because the field background is black, and when it gives you the checkmark to verify if they match or if it hasn't been used, it changes to white.

Only problem is I have absolutely no clue how to fix this!  :D

Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)

I think I ended do a Q&D fix by hardcoding the css colors in the form inputs.

(GREAT theme, by the way!)

Hey, no I hadn't installed any mods at that point in time. The one difference though that I see in your screenshot is that there is no icons to the right of the forms to indicate that the user-name is okay for registration (that it isn't already taken), and that the passwords match. I believe it was showing green checkmarks or red x's, depending on the situation. From the moment that this function performed itself, the background color of the form in question would change to white and, thus, the font would disappear.

Recently I've switched to the default theme which I'm going to modify for different colors, the primary reason being that the default scheme has a much wider view, but also because the person who I'm setting the forum up for decided against having a dark theme. Personally I really dug it, so thanks for the work in putting it together! :)

hi,
Look in BR "(index.template.php)" there is one single < Table > , this is where you ADD YOUR IMAGE.

            <table width="100%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" border="0">
                <tr>
            <td>';
      echo '
            <a href="', $scripturl, '" title=""><img src="', $settings['images_url'], '/brlogo.gif" style="cursor: pointer; margin: 2px;" alt=""/></a>'; <===========HERE===========>
   echo '
            </td>
         </tr>
      </table>

..and that's it..

Look at the default theme. If the images show there then they may have to be placed in the themes images folder.

Don't know if you've changed anything, but I've just got into both the site and the forum with no problems.

I'm using Firefox 18.0.2 with NoScript and AdBlock Plus, currently with nothing from your site being approved by me. I'll have a play and let you know if anything stops it from working :)

EDIT: Just allowed everything through NoScript, one at a time, then all together, and disabled AdBlock and the site still worked. Also tried it on Chrome and Opera, both fully updated, and didn't hit a problem there either.
