Title: SMF 1.1.2 Released
Post by: Grudge on February 10, 2007, 07:36:03 AM
Simple Machines is proud to announce the release of SMF 1.1.2. Since the release of SMF 1.1 a number of bugs have been found by the community members here and this release should fix all major outstanding bugs in SMF. In addition a couple of security issues were pointed out to us which we have patched in this release. We have also fixed a number of issues with UTF-8 support - including emails being displayed incorrectly in some webmail clients.

In addition to fixes with this release we've also rewritten much of the visual verification (i.e. CAPTCHA) code to allow the admin to set the difficulty of these images as some people were having trouble reading the current images. We'd urge all users to upgrade to SMF 1.1.2 as soon as possible to take advantage of these fixes. A summary of the fixes is as follows:

For users currently running SMF 1.1.1 upgrading could not be easier. Simply log into your forum and visit your admin center - a notice should inform you an update is available. Follow the instructions to patch your release - this should not generally affect any modifications, language packs or themes you have installed. Alternatively download the attached patch file and upload to your "Packages" directory and visit the package manager to install this fix. Note that due to the visual verification changes if you currently have a CAPTCHA modification installed you may need to uninstall this mod to upgrade.

If you cannot upgrade using the package manager please follow the instructions posted in the Online Manual about installing (http://docs.simplemachines.org/index.php?board=2.0;sort=subject) and upgrading (http://docs.simplemachines.org/index.php?board=3.0;sort=subject).

Finally - please do not use this topic for any support requests. You will get a much prompter response by visiting the relevant support board!

Thanks,

Simple Machines

I get this when installing:

9. Execute Modification ./Sources/ManageRegistration.php Test failed
15. Execute Modification ./Sources/Register.php Test failed
20. Execute Modification ./Sources/Subs-Graphics.php Test failed
28. Execute Modification ./Themes/default/Register.template.php Test failed

I know how to sort it myself, but just incase you wanted to know.

Dear Simple Machine Team,

simply brilliant. On a SMF with TinyPortal and several mods, not one problem, it worked flawlessly!!

My compliments and thanks to the whole team, you've made me a seriously happy board-owner again!!!

Upgrade worked fine.

I see a couple of quick edit bugs were fixed. Unfortunately the quick edit bug in which entities are created when in UTF-8 was not fixed, despite my mentioning it weeks ago.

See the test of 1.1.2 here (Check the actual code to see the entities)

And also see my comment in internationalization board (for those with access to it)

Here is the code (added space to correctly display it)

spiros - apologies that got missed. Unfortunately it hadn't made it onto our bug tracker - I have now added it so we should hopefully be able to address it in the next update.

Hi Grudge,

Thank you for your prompt reply.
I am happy that you people take internationalization seriously ;)

Thank you! The update installed flawless :)
No problems at al. Got 31 mods installed and TinyPortal 0.9.7.1

But i don't understand one thing.. Why is it when i go to the package manager and use the option "The minimum files are writable." it's sets the settings.php and the settings_bak.php to chmod 777? Isn't this a security risk, or do i got it all wrong? I manually set them to 644, and the forum works great after doing this..

But thanks again for the update, i really enjoy using SMF :D

For 1.1.1, there is in your package manager, in 1.1 there isnt, you'll have to go to 1.1.1 first.

You dont need to use either in the package manager. Those packages are for the FTP. There's a patch availbale in the package manager of your forum to use that way.

Why chmod 777 is NOT a security risk (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=2987.0)

Settings.php is changed by the Server settings area in the admin panel, so it needs to be writable for those settings to be changed. If you don't touch that area, then you are fine.

Two different forums, two fresh installs of 1.1.1, no mods, nothing special, and in both cases I was warned NOT to install the upgrade. I can't share in the enthousiasm of the others in this thread. Mostly because SMF 1.1.2 fails to inform me WHAT is wrong.

joh87swe,

Appears to be a problem with the gallery.

BartB,

Sure it's not a chmod issue - is SMF asking for your FTP details? If you have no mods you can alternatively upgrade using the update package on the download page.

SMF is not asking for my FTP details, but that doesn't mean it can't be a chmod issue of course :) What directory should be 777 for the upgrade to go well?

OK when I upgraded from SMF 1.1 to 1.1.1 it removed the option to unistall the Advanced Visual Verification Mod. But now it looks like you can't install this 1.1.2 with the Advanced Visual Verification Mod in place. :o

So what is the work around other than a full manual upgrade. Shoot we were told the 1.1 line was going to be more simplified with all this and it's the same of crap. >:(

I do not have the time anymore to rebuild everything all over again! :(

Right, few things:

lorenzone92 , link to patch was meant to be - a typo sorry
custom.simplemachines.org/mods/downloads/smf_1-1-2_patch.tar.gz

1.1.2 is *not* compatible with the visual verification mod - it must be uninstalled.

It seems some mod authors have restricted their mods to a certain version (For example 1.1) and hence are not showing uninstall options. You can make SMF pretend to be another version (As far as the package manager is concerned) by adding:

;version_emulate=1.1

To the URL in the package manager to make it pretend to be a different version.

Adding this feature was determined to change a bit too much to be feasible to fit in for 1.1 final. This will likely be addressed in the next version of SMF where it can get a lot more testing.

For that mod, you will notice that if you require guests to use captcha, and you have quick-reply on by default that then a guest tries to post, it will fail and jump to a normal posting window with the error that the captcha wasn't filled in. That is one of many little quirks, and partly the reason adding guest post captcha was determined to be too much to fit in at the RC stage. When a feature is implemented in the core, the team goes to great lengths to make sure it works in every aspect.

I have 8 mods installed and it went effortless.
Took me more time to read about the update then to do it.

Great Job on the Fix.

I don't understand how this modified my index.english.php without changing my custom welcome and all.. the only difference I note is the icons next to the copyright on each side are now stacked on top of each other.. :^\ maybe it's for the best..

Please Post requests for support in the propitiate support boards. Posting them here they will more than likely get missed and answers lost.
Now thats over.

Am very happy about the release. Caught many bugs since 1.1.1 :P

Failed on profile.template.php

The rest of the items are successful.

2 questions....

1) Can I run the upgrade anyway ?
2) If I can upgrade anyway can I do the edit to profile.template.php manually ?

Thanks!! ;D

1. Yes, although be careful as you could wind up with problems. Get a file backup before doing this.

2. If everything else works fine, yes.

Am I the only one that has noticed that some of the uninstall links in the list of installed mods have dissapeared.

No I had it happen with 1.1.1 and that seems to be preventing me from upgrading to 1.1.2 due to not being able to unistall what needs to go bye bye :o :(

This problem was not there until I did the upgrade form 1.1.1 to 1.1.2 . Is there a way to fix this minor inconvenience

Contact the mod author for problems with mods.

The uninstall links disappear because those mods are marked to work with 1.1.1 only. Install/Uninstall links will only show when the mod is marked as being compatible with your SMF version (to avoid problems when dealing with incompatible mods). Use the emulation trick posted earlier in this thread to get them to display when you need them, but keep in mind that is not supported.

Thank you for the update.

I have to report a problem with Greek characters in notification titles. I had noticed it here, in SMF's site a few days ago (UTF-8), then appeared in my site(windows-1253) after upgrade. The title appears as entities.

Titles in Greek appear correctly in my Yahoo! Mail but not when I get my mail with Mozilla Thunderbird.

It was an issue with 1.1RC3, OK with 1.1 and 1.1.1, now appears again with 1.1.2.

Love your software to pieces... but it somehow hates me. One installation claims wrong rights and won't install, same server, same rights: it works. Of course VV won't work since some uninstallable crap from the otherwise great AVV from harzem makes it disfunctional. Time for a clean new installation I suppose... :'(

You've got the AVV modification installed. You have to manually remove it before you can upgrade to 1.1.2. And yes...it's a pain to manually uninstall it.

Error in Package Installation
At least one error was encountered during a test installation of this package. It is strongly recommended that you do not continue with installation unless you know what you are doing, and have made a backup very recently. This error may be caused by a conflict between the package you're trying to install and another package you have already installed, an error in the package, a package which requires another package that you don't have installed yet, or a package designed for another version of SMF.

I have never gotten package manager to work and have about 6 mods installed manually.

I am a bit nervous about what to do here. I upload all the unzipped files and run ..../upgrade.php I guess?

The smileys and avatars are already there - do I really need to upload those again? Or if I don't upload them will the upgrade.php return an error because they are not there?

Will it overwrite all those files I have modded with the upgrade ones, or does it somehow know to leave my manually edited additional mod code bits alone? I don't want to upgrade and find I have lost all my mods!

Do i just upload the Ugrade folder unzipped, or have to place the files within it into their proper folders first (source files to the source folder etc)

If it will overwrite my modded files, is it feasible to manually edit the files locally to include the 1.1.2 code and upload those, or not? It does seem with several MB of files that might be too much.

Should I edit them, adding the mod code, then just upload them - does that mean I don't have to run upgrade.php?

Sorry for the dumb Q, but I'm new to this and have never upgraded a forum before!

Is there any chance that you will release "code changes" similar of that to PHPBB? I have to manually edit my files and templates in order to get the modifications and custom template mods since my host (I am sure many people have this problem too) does not allow mods to be installed automatically via the package manager.

Is there any chance that you will release "code changes" similar of that to PHPBB? I have to manually edit my files and templates in order to get the modifications and custom template mods since my host (I am sure many people have this problem too) does not allow mods to be installed automatically via the package manager.

Download the package file and look at the mod files in an editor. You can see all the changes that need to be done with it.

Correct. The small update is for only if you are running the next lowest version (in this case, if you were using 1.1.1).

It's not a security risk. If you look at the file, it's rename as Settings_bak.php and NOT Settings.bak (this is a security risk). Since, it's a php file, the php processor takes over and serves out a blank page.

Hi!

I can't upgrade my forum :(

I am Portuguese, as well my forum language..., I removed all the extra themes remove all the language folders..., then I copy the new smf_1-1-2_portuguese-utf8 to my domain, all themes are now with the latest languages files..., but I still have this message:

QuoteThe upgrader found some old or outdated language files.

Please make certain you uploaded the new versions of all the files included in the package, even the theme and language files for the default theme.

Any ideia? Where I can find more language files?

HecKel

EDIT: I upload also the smf_1-1-2_portuguese and my problem mantains...

Please notify this forum's administrator that this site is missing the copyright message for SMF so they can rectify the situation. Display of copyright is a legal requirement. For more information on this please visit the Simple Machines website.

I installed the latest patch (1.1.2) on my localhost first (as I always do just in case) ... I no longer have Tiny Portal, itwiped it out. I figured ok, no big deal, just reinstall TP since this is only a local copy. I get the following error:

"The package you are trying to download or install is either corrupt or not compatible with this version of SMF."

Anyone else have this issue? Can any one help me work this out?

Can anyone tell me what's going on, 'cos I have to admit I don't have a clue! I don't think I have the CAPTCHA mod because it isn't listed... Any help gratefully recieved, thanks.

I have a test board where I work on Tiny Portal. It is 1.1.1 and the only mods installed were TP 0.97 and Advanced Visual Verification. When the patch came out I installed it via the feed into the Package Manager and on test it failed where expected, so I uninstalled the AVV and it updated without any errors. When I wanted to test a TP 0.98 alpha, I uninstalled TP 0.97 (for 1.1.1) and re-applied the patch. On trying to install TP 0.98 I got the package is corrupted etc. although the package_info file includes install and uninstall info for 1.1.2. To install it I had to uninstall the patch, install TP 0.98 and re-apply the patch.

As 1.1.1 board I have no problems installing mods or themes, as 1.1.2 I am having problems, is this a server problem or a result of one of the security loopholes patched in 1.1.2?

As a postscript, I do not think that the Visual Verification improvements in 1.1.2 are good enough, I still want to use the AVV Mod.

Not sure why you ran into problems installing 0.98 after upgrading to 1.1.2.

We were not trying to make the AVV mod obsolete with the changes to the visual verification system - we simply added some much-needed improvements as the original system had some flaws (it didn't work on all servers and was sometimes difficult to read).

I realise that and it is better than it was, however I still feel that in my boards circumstance we need the Advanced version. We get lots of these in the error log

I recently started having this problem myself. I simply downloaded the zip files or gz files to my local computer then used the package manager to upload those files. It was a simple enough work around. I'm not sure if the problem showed up after the update to 1.1.1 or if it was out of the blue.

My problem with SMF and the update process is this:
I'm running a different forum with phpBB and a lot of custom written pages. When will there be a conversion program written to rewrite all my custom pages to make them work with SMF as actions? LOL
I'm very pleased with SMF so far and the simplicity it brings to running a forum based site. I've been recommending SMF to anyone who asks which forum software is best to use. The update went without a hitch, even though I've rewritten some of the default templates and the forum has quite a few mods installed.
Thanks,
Tim

Most likely not :P
I had a similar problem, but have only one custom page. The best thing to do is to use the help. In my case, a "sub-action" inside help was enough. But in your case, maybe you need to create a custom action. And the best way to do it to custom pages is to use the help template...

I successfully installed 1.1.2. So where can the difficulty of the images be set as referenced above?

Seems that the update has a major problem with tables.

I had several long pages which utilized tables but now after the update whenever someone attempts to edit or quote it, it automatically adds a bunch of table tags to it and messes everything up! There's no way to preserve the original page and add stuff to it without it going bonkers.

We never had that problem until after the update was done. Only one mod was added since then - the integrated chat mod.

But please ask these questions in the appropriate support boards. They will most likely go missing if asked here.

As someone who through the first attempt at captcha in 1.1.1 was completely unreadable and thus unusable, the new options are wonderful and readable, and i appreciate the control over difficulty levels of the captcha images.

I think that Bloc has made TP instable with version 1.1.2. You might want to check it out at the TP site. Whereas for the mods, some of them are already updated to be used with 1.1.2

Sorry if I got off topic here

Hopefully this will be fixed before the next release and I have a lot of forums to update, thanks for the great work otherwise though.

nope. was only included to get those language files updated.
Other language files not included you will need to download the new language files and upload them.
Or look at what new strings are added

Its my first time :o

So read the instruction, the bit that said

"For users currently running SMF 1.1.1 upgrading could not be easier. Simply log into your forum and visit your admin center"

now that sounds good 8)

"- a notice should inform you an update is available."

Yep got that

"- Follow the instructions to patch your release - this should not generally affect any modifications, language packs or themes you have installed."

All sounds good but didn't make the link to the instructions, until I
clicked Packages in admin.

You can install this patch (click here to install) to update your version of SMF to 1.1.2.

Then the hard bit click Install now.

Result. The package was installed successfully. You should now be able to use whatever functionality it adds or changes; or not be able to use functionality it removes.

WOW took me 180 seconds to upgrade 2 forums, now thats good, excellent job guys.

I've just installed the new SMF 1.1.2 version.
And I'm still encountering these 2 problems, please assist. Thanks in advance.

1st error:
When I clicked on the Mark as read:

An Error Has Occurred!
Session verification failed. Please try logging out and back in again, and then try again.

2nd error:
when you click on (https://www.simplemachines.org/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg84.imageshack.us%2Fimg84%2F9800%2Fnewmw7.jpg&hash=aba52bd9c32399aa39daa1153b434c1d879d95e1), it brings you to the 1st page of the thread.

Did you have the captcha mod installed when you updated to 1.1.2? Visual confirmation and the sound work just fine in 1.1.2

When I click that link, I have to login EVEN if I'm already logged.

Why?

1. SMF 1.0.7 / 1.1 RC2 Update 1.0

but now i am not able to upgrade to 1.1.2
when i try the package at the download page for smf 1.1 it shows after uploading

The package you are trying to download or install is either corrupt or not compatible with this version of SMF.

can anyone plz tell me if there is any need for update and is it possible for me to upgarade without loosing too much of sleep over it....

Thanks. But when I do that, all I see is a box to disable the visual verification, not to change the difficulty levels. What am I missing? ???

dragonfly - i use the Aa Damage theme and the option is not there. i went ahead and set the theme to the smf core, made the adjustment to what type of visual verification i liked, saved it and then set it back to the Aa Damage theme and the visual verification was how i set it - the new way. just seems like a very small workaround. hope this helps

I want to re-emphasize something that's really REALLY bugging me about this. You guys issued an update. Just two weeks before that update I loaded 1.1.1, now you've released 1.1.2. Great. Update went great. EXCEPT.. yeah there's that word - language files.

Now I've seen numerous responses to this, and you keep telling your subscribers to "update their language files". Well, I didn't load any language files. I loaded a new, fresh 1.1.1. So then why do I need to go to the extra work? Sounds to me like you guys left something out of your update and rather than face the music you tell everyone to update their language files. Hey, that wasn't in the instructions of the update, that you'd have to get some other update to update the updater of the updated update.

So, I'm screaming this again, as I did in this post:
http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=142448.new#new

Why don't you guys get a new story? If you're going to issue an update, and it doesn't work, instead of giving me beef about updating the language files the VERY LEAST you can do is direct me to a link to find those files along with instructions on updating them.

Yeah, I'm pissed, you don't get a new Chevy, get the seat belts recalled and have them replaced, just to find out they took out the seats and you've got to replace them yourself! What kind of crap is that????

harry_enfield, that particular problem has a few different causes. Some seem to be related to certain server configurations, but I don't believe we have been able to replicate these ones.

harry_enfield, that particular problem has a few different causes. Some seem to be related to certain server configurations, but I don't believe we have been able to replicate these ones.

I will gladly work with you to help resolve if it helps. We have the login/out session expires issue.

I seem to have encountered a problem. I installed the 1.1.1 version and made no changes. I then clicked on the link to download the update too 1.1.2. 40 something files all said ok and I clicked install now. After that is when the problem came up. The only thing happens is my screen turns white. When I checked the list, the update is listed but it still asks if I want to install?

Very interesting thing said. You're not a webmaster and you want to do things like this??

Start like all over people, reading documentation and readmes available! Posts on forums etc...

Like all over people, you want the butter, the money of the butter and all done on a plate...

webinstall is a pretty good thing for this too, all is done for you, but you arrive to say words like this, great mentality.....

SMF isn't very difficult, but you do need some skills to manage it. It isn't too hard, and just takes a bit of learning. This is why the support forums exist, to educate users in SMF and help solve problems.

Now, if you don't have skills to manage SMF and don't feel like learning them, ask a friend or pay someone to maintain things for you. Many people do this, and it isn't a bad thing. Not everyone has the time to manage this kind of stuff.

Also, Charter Membership offers upgrades, but installation of extra packages is not included.

seems my post ewnt unnoticed earlier so posting the same query again

hey people i feel i am stuck . i have 1.1 rc2 with mods:
1. SMF 1.0.7 / 1.1 RC2 Update 1.0
2. SMF 1.1 RC2 Security Patch - 2 1.1 RC2

but now i am not able to upgrade to 1.1.2
when i try the package at the download page for smf 1.1 or the upgrade file it shows after uploading

The package you are trying to download or install is either corrupt or not compatible with this version of SMF.

i even tried to update to 1.1.1 but am not able to do that either ...
can anyone plz tell me if there is any need for update and is it possible for me to upgrade without loosing too much of sleep over it....

Nobody is borned learned my friend. Don''t worry about it, just hang on in the forum here and before you know very soon you will start to figure things out. Read carefully through the posts and if you have any question post them here. There are a lot of people here who are very willing to help out. That''s what is so wonderful about SMF.

Hi guys

I get the following error when I try to apply the update:

Installing this package will perform the following actions: Type Action Description
1. Execute Modification smf_1-1-2.mod Modification parse error
2. Execute Modification smf_1-1-2_can_fail.xml Modification parse error
3. Execute Modification - Modification parse error

Any ideas please?

thanks :)

i really think that the mod update is not ok. (lots of users reports me bugs)

use instead the update pack if no mods and last version, and upgrade pack if you have mods or no last version.... (all this by ftp of course)

The mod update works fine if your installation is fairly unmodified and you are running 1.1.1.

Seeing how this has turned into just support comments, I would like to request this be locked.

Hi,

I'm still using 1.1 RC3 with SMF 1.0.9 and 1.1 RC3-1 Security Patch, Version: 1.0.8/1.1 RC3 + severals mods like:

1. PaypalDonations 1.7
2. Global Headers Footers 1.1
3. Contact Page 1.0
4. SMF Gallery Lite 1.6.5
5. Advanced Visual Verification 1.0 - cannot be used with above security patch
6. Dilber MC 1.0
7. Ad Managment 2.0
8. PagesToGo12 1.2
9. Users Online Today Mod 1.4.0b3

I tried to upgrade to 1.1.2 but most of the above mods cannot be used anymore and seem to mod manually for theme. What are the important file in the zip file that need to be upgrade. I think better to replace only the important files to server rather than to replace all files where I need to mod manually again.

Now, I already uploaded the backup file to server and back to use 1.1RC3.

One more thing, does this 1.1.2 includes Quick Reply?

Please do advise. TQ.

I was upgrading from SMF 1.0.5 directly to 1.1.2, everything appears fine. Was there any need to redo the theme files?
