This is a super nice theme. One thing though, when I go into theme settings and set my forum width to 100%, it stretches the right side of the page. After noticing this I re-installed it on a clean install of SMF, and it still does it. Does this happen to anyone else, or is it just me? I'm using both Opera and Firefox.

Sorry for late response, I thought I had watched this topic but whatever.

This will happen if you have too much stuff on your nav bar. You could decrease the padding(css) on the items to fit all of your stuff.

Yeah, slight problem. The bar gradient on "User Info" "Top Posts" "Who's Online?" etc on Simple Portal don't stretch far enough, what is the solution for this?

Thanks,

Grab a copy of the portal.css file from the default themes css folder and place it in your current theme css folder.

Hi, this a very nice looking theme. Having tried it out I found I could not get it to display my own logo, is there a reason for this? Also I have Facebook Connect mod installed and the login button went missing, would I need to re-install it?

When someone logs in, we have the option to show unread posts. My users are screaming bloody murder because the "view replies to your posts" option is missing. How and where can I add that back in?

Uhh all you have to is add "?action=unread" to the url to index.php to get there. Or just add a link where ever you want with it.

Ex:

<a href="', $scripturl ,'?action=unread">View Unread</a>

That's the same thing thing that is already there. The theme contains a link to Unread Posts. I need the link to "Show new replies to your posts"

To anyone using this theme, it contains undefined errors out of the box, and depending on your settings, you will have continued problems using it.

Here is the fix, for anyone interested.

./Themes/Vertex-Theme2-0/index.template.php
Code (Find) Select
if($settings['social_icons_present'])
{
echo '
<a class="social_icon floatright" target="_blank" href="', $settings['social_icon_facebook_url'] ,'">
<img src="', $settings['images_url'] ,'/vertex_image/social_facebook_icon.png" alt="" />
</a>
<a class="social_icon floatright" target="_blank" href="', $settings['social_icon_twitter_url'] ,'">
<img src="', $settings['images_url'] ,'/vertex_image/social_twitter_icon.png" alt="" />
</a>
';
}

Code (Replace) Select
if (!empty($settings['social_icons_present'])) {
                        if (!empty($settings['social_icon_facebook_url']))
                            echo '
          <a class="social_icon floatright" target="_blank" href="', $settings['social_icon_facebook_url'] ,'">
                         <img src="', $settings['images_url'] ,'/vertex_image/social_facebook_icon.png" alt="" />
          </a>
                            ';
                        if (!empty($settings['social_icon_twitter_url']))
       echo '
                                <a class="social_icon floatright" target="_blank" href="', $settings['social_icon_twitter_url'] ,'">
          <img src="', $settings['images_url'] ,'/vertex_image/social_twitter_icon.png" alt="" />
            </a>
                            ';
}

Enjoy! :)

Great theme :)
There's still one hard coded text in index.template.php:
<a href="', $scripturl ,'?action=login">', $txt['vp_login'] ,'</a> or <a href="', $scripturl ,'?action=register">', $txt['vp_register'] ,'</a>

Its fine,  not all text needs to be a text string especially for small characters. Creates redundancy.

Could you please fix the "Undefined index" errors in the next version?

I already fixed it on my site, but with my latest mod installed (which adds an Error Log counter into the Admin menu button) I was starting to get worried about what was happening ::)

In fact, it only requires you to put an empty() around the variable, like this:
if (!empty($settings['social_icons_present']))

Quote// Vertex text file because we cant have hard coded text...

if you say so... but if someone uses this theme on site (like I do) and uses also different language than English (I'm using Polish) then I have to manual edit index.template.php because this text is not in ThemeStrings. For me it's fine, but just think about it...

I had to install this theme on someone's website, and I fix any and all errors that are encountered, even if it's the mods/themes fault. So I posted the fixes for MLM earlier, which he applied.

Also - To be politically correct? Very few inline text strings are allowed. (Copyrights, or unique names such as a company, etc. which would not be translated anyways). So in this case "Or" would need to be translated.

Apparently not in my theme, then, as the issue was still going. The issue with the Facebook and Twitter icons was solved in the template I got, but not that issue.

Just install the new one and apply that theme. They will be called the same thing so you may want to delete them. But if you look at the paths they will be different.

Great theme! I'm using it on my new project (i'm newbie of SMF, sorry if i'm asking something stupid :) ) at this address doaitalia.it

I'm using Vertex theme combined with ADK Portal modification. Everything seems good with your theme, but i'm having a little problem with the ADK Portal function that permits me showing its sidebar into the forum (sorry for my bad english... i attach an image for better explain)

(https://www.simplemachines.org/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdl.dropbox.com%2Fu%2F1174908%2Fadkvertex.jpg&hash=008d0065eed4840ef115f8500a235765d5c2f9f7)

I've tried some other themes, the adk portal's right colum is correctly sown in the forums, but not in Vertex.
Is not a great problem, i'm simply asking you if maybe a mistake in the theme sources, or it don't use the same function called by adk portal.

Oh, i have another question: i've set a background image url in the theme settings:

(https://www.simplemachines.org/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdl.dropbox.com%2Fu%2F1174908%2Fvertexbg.jpg&hash=e5af9a3b50f110d82e9dec8c6399926d5259878a)

but the only way i've found for displaying it (i know, it's horrible logo... i must redo it :) ) was manual editing of the index.php :(

I like this theme as well and I plan to use it on my site as soon as I get more info as to how to fix some of the errors I'm experiencing as well. One of the errors I found was the Logo display as well. I couldn't get it to work in the SMF settings, but I copied the path of where the "Vertex" Logo was loading from and replaced it.

@Skyflash, if you're unsure as to where it is, look here:

/Themes/Vertex-Theme2-0-2-v1-2/images/vertex_image/banner_logo.png

I simply replaced the "banner_logo.png" file with my own picture and renamed it to "banner_logo.png" and it worked. Its not as efficient as manually uploading the path of your image and pasting it into the SMF Settings, but it works.

Another problem would be in the menu bar. I've taken a snip of the error I'm getting:
(https://www.simplemachines.org/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi.imgur.com%2Fs57lt.png&hash=b3ed58d2d01eb07e5602909999b630866d1cd2ba)

I'm not sure what's causing that, but is there a way it could be fixed? It's only working like that on my current site, but I've tried it on a fresh SMF and everything worked fine...Also, the scroll thing (I'm not sure what it's called) is supposed to follow the cursor of the mouse in the menu bar, but on my site, it doesn't (it does on the fresh SMF though).

Some Background Information:
- I'm running SMF Version 2.0.2. It's not a fresh SMF Site, but rather an upgrade from Version 2.0.1. I'm not sure if that's the problem or not..

- I'm running SimplePortal on my site so if that's causing an issue, let me know.

Thanks in advance! :)

As i said, i'm new to SMF and its framework, but in my Wordpress and Joomla experience, i thik maybe related to a Javascript library you load in your forum.

Vertex uses jQuery. Look if you're loading the same library twice (other mods that uses jQuery, mooTools etc?) and if the two libraries has different versions.

This is written in all the SMF themes.

You can find the answer here (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=452021.msg3157264#msg3157264)

QuoteSMF has the noindex thing there because of the PHP session ID in the URL

QuoteSMF is designed in such way that you don't get duplicate content, just refresh your index page and you will find noindex gone. Explain further, though you are on index page, but its not the actual index url and hence SMF is saying not to index it.

Thanks for the link. When I used the tool, the only thing that came up was SMF and jQuery 1.7.1.

Edit: I found out why it was doing that. You can't have the Mod "Sisyphus" installed on your SMF Forum and use this Theme at the same time..

Edit 2: Nor can you have "FancyBox 4 SMF" installed..

Just a quickie here for the designer guys,

I need to expand the horizontal bar that runs accross the top of this design and make it larger to accomate my forums logo, I don't want to make the logo smaller but the current size makes it overlap the menu tabs  ???

Take a peek

(https://www.simplemachines.org/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi475.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Frr114%2Fukbusinesslive%2Fforum-2.png&hash=be5c0fc8f787f4d956fe3cb12c8d024ddd7c7e77)

Any ideas
I also tried to do that with my higher logo, seems it requires editing the CSS file + stretching an image. No idea how to do that so I just resized my logo.

I like how this forum looks with the width set at 75% but the top bars stay at 100%. How would I make the menu bar and top bars the same size (width) as the rest of the forum? I can change the header css from 100% to 75% but it then floats left. I am not sure how to keep it centered over the main page.

Thanks

When someone logs in, we have the option to show unread posts. My users are screaming bloody murder because the "view replies to your posts" option is missing. How and where can I add that back in?

Uhh all you have to is add "?action=unread" to the url to index.php to get there. Or just add a link where ever you want with it.

Ex:

<a href="', $scripturl ,'?action=unread">View Unread</a>

Not very clear can you throw more light on this.

Hey, hey, calm down man...

I don't remember if i've really removed your copyright, or if maybe do by a mod, or something else. I was learning SMF, about 3 weeks ago, and it's possible i've modified your theme. Or not.

Send me your code snippet and i'll put again in the theme. In your theme that is only my testing theme and that, at this point, don't will be the definitive one.

Only a thing: i've read all your php files, and i've not seen ANY LICENCE about the copyright removal. So i'm telling you that i put it again (send me the snippet), but without the presence of a licence, i can remove it legally.

Remeber it, please

You used the word "immediatly". Ok, now i'm wainting IMMEDIATLY you send me your code snippet, as i requested.

45 minutes are gone. You're not able to send me your snippet "immediatly", as i've asked. You sentenced me for the copyright reinstall, and you're not able to answer me in the same ("immediatly") time.

As you don't give particular support on your work in this topic, you can't support people you menace with your messages. Let me say, man... you need drinking some (many?) chamomiles, because you're too stressed.

As you may consider with your eyes, my forum is full of external mods copyrigths, so the lack of your could just be a mistake. You have not been able to respond "immediately", as you claim but the other people, so i corrected the error myself.

And do not worry: when I have my final theme, your theme (and your copyright) will disappear forever from my forum

See ya, man

Nice theme you have here MLM.

Just wondering since the borders are very thin white, is there a way you could change it to a thin black so it stands out more?
The borders look plain around the hedges. ;)

Sorry for late response, I thought I had watched this topic but whatever.

This will happen if you have too much stuff on your nav bar. You could decrease the padding(css) on the items to fit all of your stuff.

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Could you please direct me to which css this setting is in I'm using Vertex-Theme2-0-2-v1-2 - indes.css or rtl.css?
Also the name of the div or class that the padding needs to be changed?

Thank you.

Nice theme and very professional looking.

I am getting a lot of errors saying the topnav_bg.gif in my httpd error_log. This is referenced in the css/index.css file but I can't find it as part of the theme installation. It's annoying as it's masking any actual errors with the platform having to sift through. Should this file be there?

I am using Vertex-Theme-2-0-2-v1-2

I'm not worried about the package installer. Its probably an easy css fix that you could do yourself. Maybe if I release another version I will do it but right now its not an issue.

Nothing I can do about that besides hiding what is left over on the nav bar... Don't clutter your nav bar and you will be fine.

Hello, welcome to SMF!

This is completely normal. The Vertex theme uses the file from the default theme, that is Themes/default/messageIndex.template.php. You should edit that file instead.

Thanks for the welcome and info Yoshi  :) Unfortunately it didn't solve my problem.

I tried modifying the messageindex.template.php in the Default folder as well as copying the same messageindex.template.php into the Vertex folder but nada. All I get is the attached result for my CBI efforts.

While I have you here, might you be able to help me out with this CBI business?
Title: Re: Vertex

I don't know how the CBI mod works unfortunately. What you can try is to copy the same images in each theme, also check where the image is supposed to be by right clicking and selecting Image Information or similar. You should ask for support atthe original author of the mod if that doesn't help you out I'm afraid, which he provides at http://www.smfhelper.info/ if I got the address right. Good luck :)

Hi MLM and users of Vertex, how's it going?

Well...I use 2.0.2 and also run the Vertex theme (mighty aesthetic theme too).

As visually pleasing as it is, I have a problem with board titles and the "unread posts" link getting molded together. You can see the situation for BEFORE logging in and AFTER logging in the attached files.

This issue arose after I installed and ran Custom Boards Icons. Last night me and Bigguy (CBI's author) did a serious back and forth until I was able to run the mod and, after we were able to get the icons up but with the board titles and Uread Posts link coming up jumbled, he advised me to come here to seek support from the theme's author. It is also important to point out that his mod requires a change in the boardindextemplate.php and messageindex.template.php files of Vertex. Since Vertex doesn't have a messageindex.php file, we only changed the boardindex.template.php file.

This being the case, he said: "... If you replace it [the modified boardindex.template.php] with an unmodified version and that error corrects itself then it is the mod somehow. If not then it is the theme..."

So, I changed the boardindex.template.php back to it's original state but the problem persisted. So, as far as Bigguy's opinion goes, this is an issue with the theme, and not the mod.

Would anyone happen to know how to remedy this?

Thanks in advance.

Hi MLM
...
Thanks in advance.

Revert back to the original boardIndex template and make the changes manually. The reason this theme is so visually pleasing is because it is custom. Custom means that you are going to have problems with mods made for the default themes.

Look at what the mod is trying to do to the boardIndex and implement it so it fits correctly.

On the mod site (http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=511) parse the instructions
(https://www.simplemachines.org/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg856.imageshack.us%2Fimg856%2F7913%2Fcbiv05customboardicons.png&hash=5e488df8e058b1969794902055ceec36e1a1cfea)

After that look for the edits to BoardIndex.template.php

Since it looks like it just has one edit it should be easy to implement. Find where the board icons are on the Vertex Theme and then paste anything that the mod adds. It may not be necessary to add all of it.

Mods only get installed to themes, if the Mods are installed after the themes are, for reasons that are logical, if you think about it. ;)

You can either go to the mod's download page and check-out the parser, so that you can install the mods, manually, or you can uninstall the mods and reinstall them, getting it to install on the new themes.

In a custom theme, there shouldn't be too many edits. Probably, just to index.template.php (Although there may be others)

I have uninstalled the mods like you said, installed the theme and then added the mods back in again, however this did not solve the issue.

Would an edit need to be made to the vertex theme via the templates? As in, is this theme a 'custom theme' as you say.

Hey Domestic!

In BoardIndex.template.php find:
if (!empty($board['children']))

and comment out that whole if statement /* ... */

Please visit VisualPulse.net (http://visualpulse.net/) for future support!

Not a clue, I'm afraid. Not a mod I've ever used. Are there any instructions, on the mod's page/support topic?

Hi MLM,

I am still struggling to remove the child boards from the home page

(https://www.simplemachines.org/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1356.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fq731%2FReady_23%2FScreenshot_zps55572ab6.png&hash=54c085455ccac1c8b9805a4f60af9ca5dfdb2e90)

Here is a screenshot, all I would like is the child board section to disappear so just to leave the forum names

Is this possible

Alex

Already answered your question here (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=442036.msg3517533#msg3517533); make sure you are editing the file for that theme. Go to VisualPulse.net (http://visualpulse.net/) for future support.

Hello
please i need a little help with the theme, i noticed that the theme doesn't contract to small screen size, it get the portal badge items scattered . though i am using ADK portal system with theme. Here is a screen shot of my forum on a small screen PC or laptop even on mobile phones. Though it is ok with large screen and works fine.

How can i make this, adjust to any kind of screen.

It is very unclear what you are asking but it vageuly sounds like you want the sub-menu to unfold when you hover instead of click. There is a solution here if that is the case: http://visualpulse.net/forums/index.php?topic=311

P.P. - Could also make Subforums look at this as kind of shots that apply and not be one after another ? I apologize for the quote but I can not post Edith

Jou need to change

.header_main

and

.banner_logo

selectors height value in your themes index.css file. If the background of .header_main div bothers you, than change the background too, to some color or use the default.

I really like the IPB forum look, so that's why I'm posted here as Vertex is like that.

I'm looking for an new theme and since I like Vertex I'm thinking to have two themes in one. Can the Vertex theme and MaterialForms merge together. For example. The background from Material says the same (apart from the sea image) and the Forum itself as Vertex. I like the look of MaterialForms, But wanted to have an IB.Broad look as well.

Here is what MaterialForms looks like http://demo.studiocrimes.com/index.php?variant=green;theme=29 and I do what it to be blue. So really I like the full background, Heading and footer from MaterialForms and the rest and even the Button links from vertex.

PS: due to copyrights reasons, is it accepted? or approved to go ahead?
