Just wondering if it is possible to change a logo for SMF from .png to .gif?

Thanks.

If you're using Admin>Current theme>Logo image URL: to place your logo, I don't think it cares whether you use a png or a gif.

Or, is there something you've not told us? ;)

That's what she said ::)

Anyhow, welcome to SMF!

You should be able to use this tool:

Just wondering, why would you want to change it to gif? Gif is generally lower quality than png. The only thing gif has over png is that it will support animation in any browser.

I need a .gif logo as I have my logo transparent.

You can make transparent PNG files, too, James. ;)

Must be kind of hard to see, being transparent and all. ;)

PNG generally does much better transparency than gif. Gif only does binary transparency, while png will do alpha. Binary means pixels must be either fully opaque or fully transparent, which is why gifs with transparency often have jaggy edges. Alpha allows setting variable opacity on pixels, meaning you don't get the jaggy edges. :)

Ah thank you guys! Much appriciated. - I understand now. :) Thanks for the replys.

Reason I needs the logo to be transparent is because the logo I had, uses a white background. Which doesn't go well on a black / grey forum background.
