Hello,

Earlier we announced (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=500903.0) the release of a whole new Default theme for SMF 2.0.5. As many correctly assumed it was an April Fool's joke. Remember, we are an international community, so it does run through out the day for us. The theme was actually based on Multi Milk 2 (http://custom.simplemachines.org/themes/index.php?lemma=2487) released by Gary (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?action=profile;u=4206). The team would like to thank him for allowing us to use and modify the theme for our purposes. (For anyone interested in using the original or modified Multi Milk 2 themes, please note that the team received explicit permission from Gary to remove his copyright notice as per the license supplied with Multi Milk 2.)

We (the team) would also like to thank midori-no-ink (http://midori-no-ink.deviantart.com/) for allowing us to use her EmotiPonies Smiley set.

Arantor's rejoining the team unfortunately is also a joke. We would also like to extend our thanks to him for playing along.

It has been a long time since Simple Machines did something like this, and we are pleased to see so many people get into the spirit of the day, so a thank you to everyone that participated.

But while this was all for fun, some people did find it insulting for various reasons, so to them we do apologize

I would like to point out to everyone that while I designed the theme as a whole, I was not responsible for the colours. When I gave permission to SM to use the theme, I just said "have at it" and what was used is the end result of a mixture of all four colour variants that are supplied with the theme, three of which were included as an afterthought on my part.

The theme was, and always is designed to be in blue, with shades that are copied from Curve, so had I have been handling the version used on SM.org, then I would'nt have touched the colours and set it as blue, (or made the theme multi colour using schemes that reference the main six characters of MLP:FIM) resulting in/offering something that was a lot less hurtful on the eyes for those who have vision impairments, so for that, I apologise for not having the foresight that something like that could've happened.

The reason I didn't get involved with the theme was simple, I had four coursework pieces to submit when the modifications for the theme were started. I've offered SM to keep the theme installed, but on condition that its reverted to how I originally made it's colours as blue, so if the only thing you hated were the colours, please say so. My forum, The Bongo Comics Fan Forum (http://bongo.babysimpson.co.uk) provides a demo of the theme using its proper colours if you're interested in seeing how it would look had I done the Brony version. ;)

The template's design was well received from what I got. The complaints were over the colours. Going from blues to red and green was a bit of a shock and the colours didn't mix well with each other.

Perhaps. But they shouldn't have been so bright and caused people's eyes to hurt. I think we can all agree to that.

I got some valuable feedback through doing this.

I thought it was amusing, so thanks to everyone who thought it up.

Incidentally, the smileys seem different to how they should be in default.  Has someone forgotten to change them?

I still think the best April Fools joke in recent history was the joint "merger" announcement between Coppermine and Gallery years ago.
