Title: The Wiki Translators Group
Post by: Illori on October 01, 2013, 11:46:18 AM
The Documentation Team is looking for interested members of the forum to join the newly created Wiki Translators Group.  If you have a good command of English, and are a native speaker of one of the foreign languages supported by the wiki, or are a native English speaker with exceptional skills in one of the foreign languages, then this may well be the group for you.

Please note that you must have ten or more posts to be able to edit the wiki, and must also have followed and read this link (http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Online_Manual:Translation_Portal), in order to make sure your wiki account has been created before you can join the Wiki Translators Group.

Assuming you meet the criteria above, you can apply for membership of this group.  To apply, please send your display name and your username to documentation [at] simplemachines.org, stating which language(s) you would like to translate.

A Note on Google Translations:

Please be aware that automated translations, such as Google translate, and similar software are not to be used when translating the wiki.  They are unreliable, often producing incorrect and incoherent translations, so please ensure that translations are your own.

Thank you, D_A_X. I see that you've brought the Spanish page about Personal Messages (http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Personal_messages/es) up to 100%. That page is looking really good now.

Do you have time to work on a few other pages? Some of them are already at about 80%: Spanish wiki stats (http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/index.php?title=Special%3ALanguageStats&code=es)

I still would love to translate some small parts, where I feel fit, into German  :)

I have "got a great that you like to join us message" ("We have even great tools" teaser email) about one month, or two ago, but maybe there was a lot to do, that no replay followed to my replay. Ohh this cookies.

Just let me know.  :)

you had applied to translate SMF not the wiki. they are different processes.

I didn't know, thanks for informing. No problem from our side. We are alsways happy if we can do something. Maybe that is also the reason why this little gift of one member of our community did not reach you:

So even later, it should not be to missed to give:

"Contributing to SMF couldn't be easier!" avaliable in more languages (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=517683.0)

Its also not direct wiki, but I guess a most important page selection for SMF.

So if you like us to make some works, we would be honored if you accept this offer.

So I need to create the wiki account no problem.

Assuming you meet the criteria above, you can apply for membership of this group.  To apply, please send your display name and your username to documentation [at] simplemachines.org, stating which language(s) you would like to translate.
Maybe it's just me that I woke up an hour ago but what do you mean by sending username to documentation at simplemachines.org?

Hey, I'm French and admin/dev on a SMF forum. I would like to translate some pages in the wiki...

Yeah, yeah, I have read the first post, the 10 posts, etc. But it's extremely annoying to have to translate in my mind the same page each time I have to read it. The same for all the pages because only 2% of the wiki is translated in French... 0% of the pages about SMF 2.0... very annoying...

I could understand this limitation of 10 posts, but now I could only do some flood to reach this number, and it appears that you have not any French translator on the wiki. Also, it seems to me that there is a validation system in the Translate Extension... (but I could be wrong).

I'm using Reverso dictionnary only when I need help (for a word/expression), checking if a translation in the list match the context, and even an English-only dictionnary (Oxford dictionnary). I'm not using this "Guignol Translate", as I call it...

Even without the ten posts required, is there any chance to have access to the Translate Extension ?

the 10 posts limit is set because that is the number required to get your account created on the wiki. we dont have an override on that requirement.
