New patches for 1.07 and 1.1 RC2

In http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=78841.msg692169#msg692169 we get information about two new patches, available only through package manager.

I got them for examination by downlading only (back in browser after installation test).

The patch for 1.07 upgrades the forum to 1.08
The patch for 1.1 RC2 upgrades the forum to 1.1 RC2 - 2

It' s quite probable that many mods will not be affected.

I think they should be available for download in a new topic like SMF 1.0.7 and patch for 1.1 RC2 released. There are people that can' t use the package manager (safe mode).

The patch for 1.0.8 is available in the first message of the 1.0.8 topic. As for 1.1 RC2-2, it's not a real version, it's more a courtesy to those who don't wanna update to 1.1 RC3 yet. The recommended upgrade path is 1.1 RC2 -> 1.1 RC3. Releasing 1.1 RC2-2 as downloadable patch makes things more confusing imho.

Sorry , I didn' t notice the files for upgrading in 1.08 topic.

1.1 RC2 has been in circulation for 8 months and many mods are made for it. 1.1 RC3 has quite a few changes and some mods will require changes to work properly.

I am also trying to avoid unnecessary trouble as I am giving support in Greek board as well as for Tiny Portal in Bloc' s site. Some are not reading notices and are updating to 1.1 RC3 then want their forum to work with all the mods it had before upgrade.

Having the patches as they are now is more practical for the non experienced user but a link for a topic with more data could be given. I still believe it should be better to give both options. The patch for 1.1 RC2-2 deserves a topic IMO. There are also those that can' t use the package manager.

It' s up to the the Team however.

I extracted the smf_1-1-rc2-2.mod and tested it using test_modification.php, just to make sure it has no conflicting error. If there is an error, at least it will give some clues as to where the error lies and will provide a chance to sort it out.

Why are you trying 1.1 RC2-2? RC3 is the latest version which you should upgrade to.

You don't need to upgrade to RC-2 first

The 1.1RC2-2 is for my live forum. At the mean time I was still testing my personal mod called SMFminiMakeover on 1.1RC3. Also I am using about 20 mods in my live forum, so will have to wait for all of them to be updated for RC3. Eg. Read Topic Permission mod does not install well on RC3 yet.

As I'm no php programmer, the SMFminiMakeover is just some tweaking:
- no admin last edit (tipped from the experts here)
- move the Recent Post box to the top of page; in fixed height with a scroll bar
- remove Latest Post line (redundant)
- on registration page, hide-email is checked as default
- add <link rel="shortcut icon" href="/favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon" />
- make "forum logo" or "forum_name" into a link to forum homepage
- remove smflogo.gif on the top right
- replace the fixed date and time with a live date and time
- add "Site content © forum_name" at the bottom of the page
- on registration page, change "Used only for identification by SMF." to "Used only for identification by forum_name."

As you can see, this mod is made as a "convenience patch" so that I don't have to manually make those changes each time there is an upgrade. So far the changes seems OK at the test forum for RC3

Like lots of smf users, I've been watching the forum here since last few weeks for RC3 to be released - wanted to install it within hours of its release - but all the mods has to be working right first. What a struggle in desire!
