I would like to have a mod on my site that allows users with aproppriate privielge to mark any post as news and then an option to select only posts marked as news and present them as News option in forum main meny or on external site.

Possibility that any post may be set as news would provide that forum boards could be used as news categories. Ablity to use posts as news would alow them to be used on forum to produce discussions, but also newspost could be shown separately, even categorized by boards. That would be great for small portals.

So it would show news in a similar fashion as ssi_boardNews() but unlike the ssi_boardNews() which shows all posts in a given board, this function would show all posts selected to be shown by staff across any board?

Right. If board is not specified then it shows all news from whole forum. If board is specified it shows only news from that board. Alos, it would be good to set if new are shown only from specified board or from subboards, if they exist.
