Is it against the rules to ask a YabbSE question here?

Daniel D.

"Yes" because there is still the yabbse.org board. THIS IS SMF ! Please ask your question at www.yabbse.org.

Ok.  It just seems that the questions asked there these days are not being answered, becuase the writers have abandoned the site.  Being that the SMF board is not released yet.. and there are MANY people still running YabbSE, the support requirement is still there, but yet is not being met becuase everyone who used to be there... is now over here.  When the new SMF board comes out... what assurances do we have that this one will not be abandoned as well??

SMF support staff are in fact checking the YSE site and answering requests.

The YSE site will eventually shut down...

I certainly cannot speak for anyone else, Oscar, however, when I get a few fleeting moments, I help out, and I still watch Other Help.  If I don't know the answer to the issue, then I let someone else answer it.  If the issue's been discussed previously, I advise people to search.  If it's a special situation, that I know I can answer, I do.

The YaBB SE support board will remain open for a period of time after SMF launches, probably until we get the bulk majority of people converted over to SMF.  Eventually, the site may be archived (Do NOT quote me on this!) for those few stragglers that just refuse to upgrade.  SMF's support will happen here, and it'll be even more powerful than ever before.  Between a FAQ, a Knowledge Base, my fellow Support Specialists and I, and even Members, plus specialized/focussed help for Charter Members will help ensure that questions get answered quickly, effortlessly and in a timely manner.

I hope this puts your fears at rest, Oscar.  :)

You need to have a little patience.

You posted at 7:18 am, and by 2:46 pm I had replied.  Not bad considering I was gone all day and I do have a life.

But, you posted this at 7:57 am - hardly even an hour after posting at yabbse.org.  By 9:45 you assumed we simply were not going to answer your question.

Even my impatient little brother can wait a few hours.

why is it that every single topic you reply to... you are a sarcastic jerk.  I had serched theboard for DAYS looking for an answer and monitored the thread in which you told me not to hijack for several days for a descent reply (which by the way still isn't answered).  If YOU are the type of person I can look forward to getting support from, ya'll can have SMF... I will go somewhere else.

[Unknown]

I'm only a sarcastic jerk when people get on my nerves by posting the same question several times... and then complain when it's not answered within 2 hours.  Just have a little patience.

Yikes! theoscarspot.com, That was uncalled for IMO.

I dont want to look like i'm taking sides here but [Unknown] has probably helped more people here than everyone else put togeather.

I couldn't have agreed more.
I know you are maybe upset that you are seeking for a fast answer, but please have come patience.

How much work [Unknown] has put into SMF is still no excuse for rudeness. SMF is providing a service to it's users, not the other way around.

Is rudeness an excuse for rudeness?

I'm sorry, but lack of patience is one thing that gets on my nerves.  Don't expect me to be everywhere at once or I'll chew you out.

I don't need an excuse, I'm not on the SMF team. I can be as rude as I want.

Let me say this again. You represent SMF. You are or at least should be in control of yourself and your emotions. Like Harry Truman said, "If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen".

I really can't agree with you, old dan.

**BEGIN RANT - IGNORE**

1. Even you have to admit that only waiting two hours for an answer before posting a follow-up is rather insane. If you've ever bought anything that you had to call support for, you've probably (at least I have) experience Loooonnggg wait times on the phone, which is far more frustrating. (And incidently, all of the times I've called, support has been no help, no fixes. I've had to figure it out on my own)

2. A certain amount of patience is REQUIRED by both parties in a situation like this. Microsoft can have a team of 100 support specialists and 100's of developers/coders FOR EACH PRODUCT. Whereas here you have basically the same people doing both at once. Has the transition strained support for YaBBSE? Perhaps a little. But I do see them one yabbse.org constantly, still answering questions, as am I. Honestly, they're not trying to abandon everyone. They're trying to GIVE you a better product. Not SELL you one. Based on my previous experience with free software, most users would KILL to have the kind of support found here. Also note that they may not have the answer right away. With software apps, the source code is generally off limits (unless you hack it), so the developers know that things will always remain constant. Whereas with moddable board source, there are 1000's of things that could be off or different. Sorry, with that many variables, anyone should understand if it takes a bit of time to work out a solution. Maybe that's just me, though.

3. I think one thing that was upsetting was his comment about if this is the kind of support he was going to get, he'll go somewhere else... think about that. Think about developing something for years, with no compensation whatsoever, and being told that because you were busy and couldn't solve a problem right away they're going to go somewhere else. It sounds really ungrateful to me. Go look at the vB help forum... literally 100's of unanswered questions. And people PAY for that. phpBB has a plethora of unanswered questions, too. YaBBSE, in my opinion, does pretty well with its support.

4. Should we ponder how many people Truman had on his support staff when he said that. :P Presidents make yes/no decisions, they don't solve problems. If you believe they do, you're wrong. People behind the scenes solve problems. If Truman had restructered congress and all of our laws with himself and a staff of 6 or so (that includes PR), then I'd be more impressed. :D

That's about it. In the end, my personal feelings on this are that if you feel you need to use different software...then do it. I honestly can't imagine you'll find anything better than what's here (though you'll most likely find worst) - even if you pay for it. Both users and developers have to be empathetic towards each other when you deal with projects like these. While frustrations on both sides can evolve into an outburst, in my opinion, [Unknown]'s comment wasn't all that harsh anyway.

So, yeah, about time I :

And, for your information... I continued to attempt to help him, until which time as he fixed it.  Incidently, this was because he had to upload his files again after his server was hacked - but, that fixed it.

My biggest annoyance here, actually, was not the impatience - I get that all the time.  I didn't like that he went and found someone who was having another problem and told them they were having his problem... which would have tripled my work if the person he told that had believed him. (the last thing you want is people thinking they have problems they do not.)

I also had a bad day that day... so I was grumpy.  So sue me... I'm human.  Does "representing SMF" mean I can't be human?  If so - consider my bags packed, you'll never see me here again.

I'm going to have to hop on with old dan here, part of the change was to bring about a new fresh way of doing things.

I'm locking this thread and we'll all be chatting about this stuff in private.

While I agree that theoscarspot could have a little more patience waiting for his reply, we as a team, should not reply in that tone.
