Personal Board Access Control

I'd like to set up a board on my SMF forum, where when someone creates a thread, they become a moderator in that thread, and control access to that thread on a per user basis - like a small private forum within the larger community.

So user creates a thread, they get an option page allowing them to add users, and only those users (and administrators) can see that the thread exists.

I guess an alternative would be a password they can set and share with the people they want to have access - but there doesn't appear to be a mod for either on the mod site - anyone working on something like this, or know of something like this that would work with SMF 1.1.1?
