No theme images in test board

I set up a Suse Linux server to test mods on my forum without risking the actual forum. Server works great, copied the forum and database, and repaired to correct the addressing, all the proper stuff.
It sets behind a router, and port requests have been forwarded. Everything is functional.
My problem is, anyone logging from the net, gets no theme images. If I log from the server, all is ok. If I log from one of the other computers in the lan, all is ok. It just won't show the graphic portion from outside.
I've tried using "localhost", the internal ip (192.168. etc.), and SMF won't allow the outside IP address to be used.
I would like to be able to have co-admins log in with me to test functions.
Any suggestions?
My thanks in advance,
ProtoType

I would try one of the free DNS servers that are out there. Then you can change your settings to reflect that address that will redirect to your address. I see the same thing when I set one up as localhost and then have people try to view it from the 'net. The above is how I deal with it when I need to have someone else look.

SMF vs. Godzilla? Who do you think will win?

Most routers won't allow you to view external content internally as they can't 'loop' through themselves.

The best way to fix the problem is to get an free dynamic name. I recommend dyndns. You will need to download the client for windows or linux so that it updates your IP.

Modify smf via the admin area or repair settings so that it is using your dynamic name.

What is repair_settings.php?

Then modify the hosts file of the internal machine you want to view the test forum from. The hosts file is located at:

/etc/hosts for linux

and

C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts on windows
