How do I integrate the forum with my website better?

This is what I'd like.  But of course, everytime you click a link, it changes to index.php?whatever and I lose the sidebars and stuff.  I'm only doing an include in forums.php and that won't work.  I tried to edit the index.template.php or whatever and I got TOTALLY lost with that.  What direction or how should I go about coding it so that it would work like I want in my link?

Is it possible to do what I'm looking for editting the 1.0SMF template though?  Maybe I just need to know that I can lol.  Or maybe another easy way?  I'm such a cop out

Well, essentially you just want to add content above and below... you may want ot look at some of the stickies on the Graphics board.
