You can see ours here:

These are relatively effective on an enterprise-level site.  They might be a bit too in-depth for a small site... but that's up to you.  They probably could also use a rewrite just for readability, since they've been written over years of time, in fragments.  All in all though, they work well.

Quit brief and straight to the point. Should add a few or rewrite them though.

In case anybody wants to read a few more rules, I created the same topic on my forum a while ago.

The beginning is pretty boiler-plate, but here's the 'Meat' of it...

===================================================

General Rules.... These rules apply to ALL forums.

===================================================

1: I supply the servers, bandwidth and offer the membership to everyone free of charge. (Pretty good deal!) I have delegated moderators to help monitor this site, therefore, I and they make the rules. This is not a democracy. It is a benevolent oligarchy. The admins are allowed to bend, amend, delete, modify, or outright ignore any rule as they see fit, with no explanation to anyone other than his or her fellow admins.

This is important...you have no First Amendment rights on this site. The admins right to free speech is protected on this site, not yours.

Mini-civics lesson: The First Amendment of the US Constitution restricts government, not private citizens, from infringing on your right to free speech. On this web site, your speech is a privilege. On your webpage your speech is a right. Learn the distinction.

2: Absolutely NO racism. if you think Adolf Hitler is a cool guy, you're not welcome here. Your account and post *WILL* be deleted ...

3: No name calling. Have some respect for your fellow members. If we get into specifics, this list would never end. Just use common sense. Don't imply or state that someone stupid, for example. If you call someone's post stupid, you must explain why. Attack the argument, not the person.

4: For any reason, at any time, and depending on the admins mood, your comment may be deleted or edited with or without an explanation or warning. Post on this board at your own risk. If you insist on an explanation, you may get one. But you may earn a timeout or outright ban in the process. If you still don't like it, tell your story walking.

5: We reserve the right to edit or delete any comment for any reason. If we edit your comment, most of the time we will add a notation, such as "Edited by the Admin" or "Nice try, troll!"

6: You get one warning before you are banned, although there are exceptions (If we really like you, you'll get three warnings.). Being banned from this domain means your ISP is blocked from accessing the entire site.

7*: No Politics. If you want to post political arguments, go elsewhere. A lot of times threads will start to skirt the line of politics. It is the admin's discretion on how far to let it go. If it disappears, someone crossed the line. If you bring it back up, you risk earning a timeout or ban.

8*: No Religion. This does not mean that you have to remove any reference to religion from your sigs and comments. You can say "Oh God!" or something like that. But if you start preaching, no matter what religion, we will kill your thread and possibly impose a timeout or ban.

(* The two things I've found in life that are impossible to change someone's mind about are Politics and Religion. They are also two ways that you can turn a friend into someone you despise in a hurry. Stay away from both, and we're all in good shape.)

9: No Porn. This is an open forum. So we need to keep it clean. Any violations of this rule will earn you a ban.

10: Avatars and posted pictures have to be PG-13. This includes pictures attached to signatures.

11: Off Topics posts are welcome, but we ask that you put them in the "Club House" section.

==================================================

If you don't like these rules, don't let the virtual door hit you in your virtual butt on the way out.

In reality, nothing here has changed. The rules posted here is a written version of what we have always informally enforced. All we are doing is formalizing them.

With all that being said....have fun!

First and foremost - be nice!  Even if someone says something that causes the back hair to bristle and the splurting of pepsi through your nostrils -be courteous.  Attack ideas by all means, but don't attack people.

We welcome people who wish to lurk, folks, post as much or as little as you want, whenever you want/can.  There are no quotas for posting, and never will be.  All we ask is that you tell us your thoughts - what is on your mind?  what would you like to know or clarified? - ask as many questions as you wish!  Asking questions and adding to a discusssion nicely validates the efforts that the opening and subsequent posters have made (it could be you!).

Free speech is a cornerstone of this board, however some topics in the debate Room are discouraged as they will invariably lead to pointless "yes, it is", "no, it is not" circular arguments - only generating unnecesary tension - other than that, speak your mind.

We definitely welcome people to showcase their websites, be it a forum, an information page, whatever you have placed your time and effort into - advertise it in the showcase and in your signature - but in respect for those still in the rigours of dial-up, please no animations, make 'em static.

Private messaging is only to be used for that, private messsaging - please refrain from advertising in there.

Please do not ask to be a Moderator, Global Moderator, Admin or any other staff except the advertised positions for being an Editor or Storm Watcher.

If you have some Art to showcase, we have a special place for that in the Art section.  We encourage mambers to comment and praise the work of others in any way you see fit.

When posting, we encourage you to link to articles of interest and relevance to your work -just be mindful of copyright - only a "snippet" - a paragraph and a link to the full story please.

By all means, present a theory for discussion, but the trade off is that if you present a theory, you must be ready to answer all questions fully and be prepared for dissection and discussion of your theory - benefit from all the minds in here!

Oh, as hacks and warez are essentially ripping off the work of another, and well in many places - illegal - do not post them nor links to them, ever.  Als, as pornography, racist and violence sites are also not what the site is about, please refrain from posting anything to do with them, including links.  We do not condone illegal activities on this board - therefore, refrain from posting about them.

If you are kinda crazy - you are in good company...that Damo.... Huh? hey wait a sec!

Finally, enjoy the site, feel free to make comments, post, lurk and such.

Oh and one more thing, kind of logical:

If you are offended by a post or thread, but knowing that the thread or post is within the rules there is only one recourse you should and could take - do not read it!!!

I have not had the need for any rules as of yet. Everyone is respectful of everyone else. We are a community of hippies ;)

Here are my rules. My server is down, but I'll try my best to remember them.

1: No flamming or shouting on the forums (using ALL CAPS) on the forums. Admins or Moderators will step in if this gets excessive

2: Respect the Forum Staff. If there is ever a problem, talking calmly will help ease things up.

3: Avoid leeching images off of sites that are not made for leeching. Please only leech off of sites that you own, or are some sites like Photobucket, or attach the images using the forum's attachment system. This is to respect the bandwidth of other site owners.

4: Please do not post links to any illegal content (illegal torrents, porn, adult content, program cracks, etc) or post any illegal programs or attach them to the forums. Anything unlawful to US laws leads to immediate banning on this forum, as this is not tolerated.

5: Do not attempt to hack the forum, site, or the server. Our server is a home computer and is monitored consistently throughout the day and night. Any attempt to hack the server will lead into a ban from the server.

6: Members have the right to appeal to a ban or suspension by talking to the admins and moderators via an instant messaging conversation, e-mail, or PM (if still usable). Remember that in order for you to have a better chance of an appeal, you should talk kindly.

7: Please speak (or type) in complete sentences and use proper English. Please do not use l33tspeech or use excessive abbreviations as this is hard to understand.

==Staff Rules==
1: Please do not abuse the ban system. The ban system has been abused several times in the past, and abusing the ban system by blocking things like Google will lead to a degrade of priveledges on your account.

2: Please avoid excessive moderation as this will kill the forum. Moderate only when you need to, but note that this is a General Talk Forum, thus just about everything will go.

3: If you are a staff member and you do not sign onto the forums in two weeks, your account will be changed to a regular member until you return and confirm that it is you on your account again. This is to protect the integrity of the forum.

4: Only change user passwords if needed. Also, be sure to set a secret question on your account in case if you need to change your password in the future.

There aren't many rules, they aren't too strict but the members enjoy the forum a lot.

RAWK Posting Guidelines

We feel these guidelines will be useful for the Mods in terms of managing the forums, but just as importantly, we hope they provide users a point of reference with which to understand the basic nature of RAWK and also to gauge why a post may have been moderated. The ultimate aim of it all though is to enable you to ENJOY contributing to RAWK and for others to ENJOY your contributions.

Its also worth pointing out that:

1. Mods may at times disagree on certain things. In these instance (which are rare anyway), its best to to let them work it out between themselves.
2. What is set out below is a framework, not an absolute set of rules and regulations. It will be necessary at times to moderate posts for reasons that are not outlined below.

BIG RULES: Things deemed to be totally unacceptable:

  • Pornographic material
  • Racism
  • Spam/Commercial advertising
  • Overt personal abuse of other posters (unless its in jest of course!)
  • Use or attempted use of the Ticket Exchange forum if you are not 18 years of age or older.
  • Ticket Touting
  • Registering and using duplicate accounts whilst banned.
  • All other breaches of the basic Forum T&C's in place at your time of registration or at any time during your membership of RAWK.

Guidelines: Things we'd rather you did not do:

  • Creating duplicate threads. Before starting a new thread use the search feature to check that the subject of your intended post is not already covered by an existing thread. Post to existing threads wherever possible. This particularly applies to post match comments.
  • Starting threads in the wrong forum. We believe the board descriptions on the index page are fairly self explanatory, but feel to ask a mod if you are not sure.
  • Starting 'one liner' theads in the LFC forum. Again, if starting a new thread in the main LFC forum, refrain from short one liners. If you link to an article on another forum/website give a few short sentences of explanation about what the link is, why we should click it and what your impressions of the article are. This goes a long way to provoking discussion.
  • Using 'Text Speak' in your posts. Please take the time to write replies in English and feel free to use the spell checker thats provided (NB: Don't worry if English is not your first language!).
  • Slagging off other LFC sites. Its seems to have become a bit of a hobby for some. We'd prefer it if you didn't do this.
  • Thread domination (ooer). Do not try to bully someone into submission or disparage every comment they make, simply because their views may differ from your own. Write a coherent reply setting out your views and then let others have their say.
  • "Spinning" news reports/interviews. Use thread titles that are appropriate to the article, rather than putting your own spin on it. This is not a tabloid newspaper, people are intelligent enough to draw their own conclusions on articles.
  • Excessive/unnecessary swearing. We take a liberal attitude to this (after all, its something pretty much all of us do at the match!), but please do not go over the top. Keep it in context and do not use swear words on new thread titles on the main LFC forum.
  • Anonymous Sourcing. If you copy and paste an article, piece of news or rumour about LFC to the forum please include a link to the original website source or explain where and the context of how you heard the story. We discourage unsourced rumour and gossip. Also, do not copy and paste news items from subscription sites such as the Koptalk Insider.
  • URL links, special SMF formatting tags or smileys in the first 1 or 2 lines of the first post in an LFC Forum thread. We've found this causes formatting issues on the RAWK front page for those using Internet Explorer browsers. There's two solutions to this:
            1. Don't use URL links, special SMF formatting tags or smileys.
            2. Everyone uses Firefox (www.getfirefox.com).
  • At end July 2006, due to the current geopolitical situation and forthcoming fixtures please note the following additional guidelines:

It's not reasonable to expect us to be able to moderate, on a Liverpool website, postings in the Hebrew or Arabic languages and orthography. Avatars must not include Arabic or Hebrew, and please do not use Arabic or Hebrew in your postings in any orthography.

It would be so much more helpful if avatars were connected with Liverpool Football Club, but that is your choice. If we have any reason to suspect that iconography you choose to use may cause offence, it will be removed and posting rights will be suspended. It is for users to explain, in all circumstances, their choice of iconogrpahy.

In the context of the geopolitical situation users posting abuse of other users, incitement of hatred, or celebration of hatred or of death of civilians due to acts of war and/or terrorism is not permissable.

What to expect in terms of moderation:

If you ignore any of the BIG RULES, you'll will find youself being moderated in one of the following ways (depending on each instance):

  • Temporary or Full access ban.
  • Temporary posting ban.
  • 'No New LFC Topics' assigned to your profile.

If you ignore any of the Guidelines, in the first instance you'll be notified by a moderator, who will let you know what it is they deemed to be inappropriate. Your post(s) are also likely to be edited/deleted or merged with others.

If you continue to ignore the Guidelines, you'll will find youself being moderated in one of the following ways (depending on each instance):

  • Temporary or Full access ban.
  • Temporary posting ban.
  • 'No New LFC Topics' assigned to your profile.

The above may also apply to posts reported to us via the 'Report To Moderator' feature.

What Users can expect from the Mods:

  • Where possible/applicable, new users will be given a polite pointer to these guidelines if we deem it necessary.
  • An explanation as to why you have been temporally/permanently banned/had posting rights removed.
  • We wont notify people of every little modification/deletion/merging activity. We're hoping that people will be able to find an answer in these guidelines. If however you cant, please feel free to ask why you have been moderated. Our preference would be for this to be done privately, but there is also the Feedback forum if you wish it to be a public discussion. Please note though, we're all volunteers, so if you do not receive an immediate response bear with us and wait for us to get back to you.
  • An explanation should always be given for why a thread is locked or moved to another forum.
  • Whilst we feel its only fair for us to communicate why we have moderated something, we also reserve the right to call you an arse, apply relevant custom titles, call into question the legitimacy of your parentage or generally just rip the piss out of you ( well, there has to be SOME benefits to this mod lark ;) )
  • A complete reversal of a moderation decision upon receipt of a suitable and sizeable bribe. Please feel free to discuss this with individual mods, though its far to say that booze usually works wonders with most of us, with some having a special penchant for Pigs Heads.

There are also a few other areas we would like to clarify at a later date (such as copyright laws and posting of articles from another source) but please bear with us as these are not so straight forward and we're still working through these bits ourselves (especially those naked pics of J-Lo :D).

Other Terms and Conditions
By submitting content, which shall include your member name, to the Red and White Kop Message website and forums, you grant the Red and White Kop website and forums a royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable, non-exclusive right (including any moral rights) and license to use, license, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, create derivative works from, distribute, derive revenue or other remuneration from, communicate to the public, perform and display the content (in whole or in part) worldwide and/or to incorporate it in other works in any form, media, or technology now known or later developed, for the full term of any Rights that may exist in such content. You also warrant that the holder of any Rights, including moral rights in such content, has completely and effectively waived all such rights and validly and irrevocably granted to you the right to grant the license stated above.

Right, well that's it we think, all thats left to say right now is:

Please note: This is a vibrant and active online community. As such, it may be necessary for us to amend the posting guidelines from time to time to reflect the changes to the overall heartbeat of the site. If this is the case, then we'll ensure any changes are communicated to you all, but please also try to check back here once in a while to see if anything has been updated.
