general php question

I want to create a new site in php.. that will read game reviews dynamically... create pages dynamically (while I set a specific layout).....  and the database will be MySQL.

How should I start doing this? I know.. this is a broad question, but I am new to php coding.  I have books.... but how do you recommend (for a noobie) to get their hands wet in this kind-of work.

ALSO, how can I make my site is secure... php/MySQL wise so that there are no easy flaws or places for people to slip in a screw up my work.  I am not talking SSL wise.

Hello there,

Firstly, have a look at the MySQL (http://www.mysql.com) and PHP {www.php.net) sites. PHP, since it is opensource, has an online manual which will explain everything you need. For security, read this: http://www.php.net/manual/en/security.database.php

Now, this is probably a bit over your head right now 

What you want to do is start by learning the MySQL datatypes, and some simple MySQL statements. over at webmonkey there is a cool article about database programing with php: http://webmonkey.wired.com/webmonkey/99/21/index2a.html, it along with the PHP manual is actually all you need. Also, try looking at the sourcecode of something like SMF it will give you quite a good understanding of how to do proper coding that is fast and clean. If you need more recomendations, just post
