Setting Administrator messed up

I set up my site.  All went well.  Then I found a problem.  I am listed as an administrator.  However, it will NOT show the stars that I set for Admin level.  6 gold.  However, I can take another user, change them to ADMIN, and it shows them with 6 gold.  No matter what level I put myself at, I always have 5 green.  This actually is the way it is with my account and one other persons (my co-owners.)  Everyone else works fine.  His and mine are screwed up.

The goofy part is, I use phpmyadmin to log into the db, and if I have another user (say number 5) set as ADMIN, his, and both of ours data is identical.  The goofie thing is, that I have full ADMIN privs.  AND, My title is ADMINISTRATOR.  The stars are screwey however.

I don't want to open up the board full force until this problem is fixed...so any and all help much appreciated.

Also, one of two side notes:  When looking at a post I make, is there a way to HIDE the newbie information?   In other words, looks sort of stupid to be a newbie who is an ADMIN.

Second note:  IS every skin (at least most as I have a few installed) set to NOT auto widen the left side if an Avatar is over say 150x150 or so???  I have even gone into the code and searched out the place where it is restricted...  yet, apparently, this is locked in every single skin?  Why is this?  That is quite annoying.  Maybe that should be in some sort of skin set up section...  To allow it to grow or not.   Hunting down that code in every single skin in every single language is a nightmare!

Thanks very much in advance for the help everyone.  I LOVE THIS SOFTWARE!!!!!

I'm not sure on your first problem yet, but as to the avatars:

Admin => Edit Preferences and Settings. Open the Avatar tab. There's max values for both external (linked) avatars and for uploaded ones.

Admin --> Current Theme's Settings --> Hide post group titles for grouped members?

open Display.template.php and look for:

Quote// Show information about the poster of this message.
      echo '
            <table width="100%" cellpadding="5" cellspacing="0" style="table-layout: fixed;">
and delete the red text
look for:
Quote// Show avatars, images, etc.?
         if (!empty($settings['show_user_images']) && empty($options['show_no_avatars']) && !empty($message['member']['avatar']['image']))
            echo '
                        <div style="overflow: auto; width: 100%;">', $message['member']['avatar']['image'], '</div><br />';
and delete the red text

Thanks!

Now, if I can just fix the main problem with the admin not showing correctly...

Also, those changes are great. Thanks!  I wonder if I should post in the feature request area about making that a setting on the board.  Real pain changing that in every skin of every language.  argh!

am seeing six stars for Airsurge
the modification I post above will remove side bar allowing it to fit larger Avatar .. but I thought you are using the Default theme .. I've made some changes to LongHorn theme and am not sure yet if the above code will work.

Have you done a 'hard' refresh? <shift>REFRESH? or tried deleting your cookies?

SpectroPro

Yes, I changed all the code in every theme that had it.  Longhorn is the only one that has the problem now.  8( as that is my server default.

Anyways, airsurge had 6 from the start.  Odd.  However, I deleted my account and had my partner make me a new one.  I have 6 now and it is correct.  I then deleted his account, he remade one, and I set him to admin, and now his works just fine.   Very odd!!!!!

Your problem may be caused by having yourself or Longhorn, etc., listed as a "Moderator" for that board.

If you are listed as a moderator for board x, you will be shown as one - even if you are really an administrator.

That was EXACTLY the problem.  I had listed 2 of us as moderators for certain boards.  Not reallizing that that particular setting is for listing OTHERS as a moderator of that board.  Thank you for bringing that to our attention.  We are both now Administrators and NOT listed as moderators on any boards.

I know this has confused people, and at times I've thought of reversing it... but... every time I think about it, it comes back to, "if they're listed there as a moderator, they should be shown as one."  I just think it's the most logical.

I mean, there's no other benefit from listing them there other than showing them as a moderator...

I do agree totally.  And once it was explained to me, it made perfect sense.  Maybe a disclaimer on the board itself  where moderators are listed stating that admins should NOT put themselves in the list as they are already moderators of the boards.

That would clear it up for new admins I think.  I, mistakingly, thought that I needed to list myself and my partner there so we could run the boards.  Simply didn't dawn on me that as ADMIN I already could.

 & Updated $txt['mboards_moderators_desc'] to reduce confusion. (ManageBoards language files)
