How many Forums/Boards can an SMF Installation Have?

Crazy-seeming question: Suppose I wanted to install SMF and have a whole lot of boards available. Is there some limit such as 256 boards, 512 boards, 1024 boards or some other number based on hexadeximal math?

I realize that administering an extraordinary number of boards would be difficult to say the least, however I have a specific use in mind that would not necessarily be obvious and I want to find out whether SMF would support it, and perhaps get a hint as to whether performance would suffer.

Without having to change the database structure, you can have up to 65,535 boards by default. If you need more than that, you will have to change several columns to mediumint.
