Is there anyway to setup SMF based on the server ip, but have it display everything as a URL instead?

I've had issues with my domain lately and I want to make sure the forum works even when the domain is not pointing correctly.

In 1.1, if you access the forum with an IP, it will automagically change all the links to use that IP instead of the URL.

I want to set it so that the the forum always uses ip to retreive everything.  But I want the browser to still see url as if the domain was working properly.

That's not possible.. if the domain isn't resolving (which is when you'd want to use the IP) you would have to show the IP.  You can't show the domain but still use the IP... that's what DNS is for.
