seems like (during peak hours) that when i select "show unread posts since last visit" or "mark all as read" the server hangs for about 30 seconds, then i get an error, cannot display page

i refresh, and same error.. maybe after 2 minutes, i can get back in..

is that just me.. or anyone else too

Remembering this site is used globally - and we are all in different time zones..... what time would you say was peek hours?

Kender

well, it happens around 9-11am central (USA)
and again around 4-7pm central

I've noticed lag later in the night than that... about midnight or 1am central.

Burpee

I've been noticing the same stuff. It takes ages for a page to load and when I check the "Page created in" it usually says about 20 to 30 seconds.

Meriadoc

Because of the nature of the show new replies function, it usually takes a while. Though it shouldn't hang up after the 30 second timeout.
You may have hit a time that [unknown] was updating the forum. He id an update on this site the other day, and has also been doing a few tests live here to help some areas out. so post again if you're still having problems :)

Any load time above 5 seconds is almost guaranteed to be held up by something else.  It's possible that it's being caused by the search functionality, but I'm still trying to track it down.  I've been hitting walls - some things suggest it might be something with the server, and at times I've had connection problems, but some suggest it may be SMF.  I am working on it.

Ive seen the site time out, but not for a long time, im on for a while but nothing goes, wrong, i mean this is my third day (Looged in), didnt actaully relise i spent so long here. Oh yeah botasp and unknown clock that by about 50

ANARCH¥

i noticied myself the lag yesterday, but, this can be SMF ? because i got the same problem, sometimes i cant access immediatly to my own site, when i can browse all other without any problem...

Trekkie101

Maybe its to do with the fact many posts are made and the database is working overtime, and the CPU will be under some amount of stress, evere seen invision speed when its busy, its like a snail.

It isn't a problem with SMF itself, runs fine on my board.

"SMF was unable to connect to the database, this may be becuase the server is busy, please try again later" now i didnt imagine it, that really happened on this site 1 minute ago, didnt it?  :P

Yeah, we all saw it -- or at least I did.
A similar thing happens fairly frequently to my YSE board, but I put that down mainly to a lack of ram.

I restarted MySQL because there were about 6 searches going through (all but one locked) and it was taking a long time; obviously poor selection of search terms.

Working on the search feature, yes...

The only one above that worked featured quotes from the posts saying "by ..." (no name.)  The linktree also seems now to be missing its three pixels of padding.

Just fell on this issue again. As is now the search function appears not to be useable at all. For example search for the word "WHERE" gives 0 results.

The search function is for the support very important. People are expected to read before they post and also the support staff needs the search function a lot.
