modifying smf template screwups

I keep modifying SMF templates in 1.0 RC2 and keep screwing it up where nothing will load afterwards except some error messages.  I have modified Yabbse template before without much problem, but SMF seems much more difficult. Anyone have any advice?  I don't know any PHP.

Well, what I can suggest, is that you perhaps learn a little basic PHP - that way, you can understand what you are editing - that may help you debug some of your errors.
