Delete Profile - Admin only

I have had to disable the option for members to delete their own profiles in my home board mainly because a few large posters have deleted themselves my mistake.

I ended up making it an 'admin only' option.

Any chance we could have the option to make it Admin or GMod only option in mods and settings ?

Well, if you go and look you'll see that it is much harder to do it by accident now...

And, it's not currently a permission but that is a good idea...

Owdy

If user delete his profile accidently in this version, she/he must be dumb ass :P U have to ad your password before deleting. I cant see any way to do this by accident.... But good suggestion ;)

It's definitely tougher to delete your account now... that said, I like the idea of it being on a permission basis

Tyris

yeah, but people should have the right to be taken off a forum database/mailing list etc. =\ raises an interesting problem... maybe we should have some sort of email confirmation for account deletion...?

wahey!! Sometimes good stuff does come out of this brain o' mine :)
just wish it could be something useful for those exams looming at the end of the week :-\

Fizzy

Good stuff indeed guys ;)

I currently get around the problem of notification and confirmation by having it written in to the forum code of conduct, if I get a request from a member to delete their membership I am therefore honor-bound to carry out their wishes.
Before I delete a membership I always ask them to take a while to reconsider the implications as once it's gone, it's gone.
Some members on mine have gotten fired up in the past, stamped their feet a bit and wanted to delete their membership, but a short while later have thought it over and cooled off a bit as I have asked them to do and then want to remain as members.
We all make rash decisions when tempers fray, I'm certainly guilty of that, if not an admin permission thing then could we look at "suspending" a membership from the forum instead of deleting it completely from the database ? At least then it could be resurrected if the person cools off and wants their old membership back :)

yeah, maybe like a 'recycling bin' of members... where their emails are not shown anywere, and they cant be found until they're -restored-... That way they couldn't be emailed, but if they changed their mind they could return.

heheh, I've occasionally wanted to delete myself from my own forum ;)

Fizzy

Thanks Tyris,

You out it much better than I could.

well.. I understood your idea... I just thought it'd be a nice idea to use a kinda recycling bin like for posts... so they're still in the database.. but only admins etc can see them.. :)

ooo.. maybe another mod for me to do ;)

[Unknown]

I suppose it could just sorta... deactivate them.  The framework is there for it...
