Hi all,

is their a way to downgrade the SMF beta 2.0  to the old stable version without losing any data or logins?

Friendly greetings
Ken

Nathaniel

No, this is not currently possible, and its not likely that it will be made possible.

Out of interest. Why do you want to convert to the older version?
Are you having any problems with SMF 2 Beta? They may be fixed in the SMF 2 Beta 4.0 version which should be released soon...

Hi,

Their not much mods availbleb yet for the beta 3.1 still.
I read something about converting V2 to phpbb and so back to 1.1.5

Does anyone know if this works?

I haven't tried converting like that before, but I'm sure some data will be lost after the two conversions. We always stress to users not to install beta versions on live environments. If you must use it, at least have a backup of the previous versions database and files just in case you want to revert back.

It is very much possible. I have done it 3-4 times :) But it involves some serious work at the database

Yes, this is why it's noted a few times of the BETA status of the software and the, for the most part, one way action currently involved.

You can convert to phpBB3, and then convert from that to 1.1.5.  But that is also very long and I'm sure guaranteed to result in some conversion issues and errors.

Please post how you did it... i really need to downgrade my forum...

Arantor

Why do you need to downgrade?

It's a huge amount of work; you need to reorganise 63+ tables into 41+ tables, renaming most of the columns as you go.

And exactly what version do you wish to change from/to?

Nathaniel

There is no 'official' way to do downgrade from SMF 2 to SMF 1.1.x, although you can do it by converting your forum to phpbb3 then back to SMF 1.1.x. ;)

The post/topic below discusses that conversion:

I made full remote convertor from SMF 2 RC3 to SMF 1.1.12 (maybe it can be useful for SMF RC4 too  :) )
Convertor url: _http://spyfinch.org.ua/conv/
But it is on my language (I'm ukrainian). So please use translators, before i could translate it to English.

How it works: entering data into the fields, click OK, the script creates new tables in the your database for SMF 1.1.12 with another prefix.

It does not save your passwords anywhere. Waiting for feedback.
Sorry for my English.

Best Regards,
Andrew aka SpyFinch
