Plain and simple.
If you dont like how the mod is offered, then dont use it.

Fine, I will put a link to his site on my website so that he gets his credit. Honestly, If I were to make something like this I would not do such a thing as he did. And Saber, this entire forum is full of people who dont just accept the mods the way they are offered. Many mods I have used have strings on how to tweek them here or there, some times drastically different from the original. In fact I just got the "Rotating Header" mod and changed the code considerably to make it more user friendly for code heads. I posted it on Cyclons thread and he appreciated what I had done. According to what you say, Saber, I should have just uninstalled it and went along my merry way (or at least thats the context I am feeling from your post). I dont want to step on anyones toes in this forum. I am more than ready to help someone with a problem if I am capable. Isnt that what this support forum supposed to be about?

No..come to think of it... Im just going to dump the mod all together. I dont want anyone thinking that Im going to remove their copyrights (and that wasnt a copyright). But, regardless, its getting uninstalled and deleted fair and square.

Sabre™

Indeed buddy.
As I stated, I do not agree with it myself, so I do not use this mod.
You may tweak a mod anyway you see fit, but...  when he states that it is his copyright, licensed or not, it is his copyright.

      <span class="smalltext" style="display: inline; visibility: visible; font-family: Verdana, Arial, sans-serif;">';
if(!empty($twoby2host_copyrights))
{
echo $twoby2host_copyrights;
unset($twoby2host_copyrights);
}
echo '</span>

I see the mention of copyright in this part.
I havent gone through this mod, and dont intend to, so I do not know what else is lying within.

Another way is to learn how to manually add buttons with a link to the page you'd like to view. This is how I set my nav menu when I need new buttons.
Im a complete newb when it comes to the bowl of code, but adding tabs took probably 20 mins to learn.
It isnt difficult to do once you have something to go off! ;D </hint>

Dont let such a little thing get on your nerves buddy, there are thousands of people here to help you out with anything you need :)
Within reason of course lol ;)

Oh no, Im not mad or frustrated at all. Thats always been my #1 gripe about forums/chatrooms/emails/etc.. You can not hear or feel the emotion from the people you are communicating with. Im a really easy going person thats almost always willing to help people.  :)

Sabre™

Great to hear mate... I didnt mean you were coming off as such, I was merely mentioning incase it happens lol ;)

Since this has sparked a bit of interest, I have just now had a quick squiz at this mod.
Its not too bad actually.
A shame it has that minuscule issue we are discussing.

Has anyone contacted the author and asked for a slight .....  rearrangement of code?
The AP where you make the changes would be good enough to display that code ?? ??
Or another author may have a similar mod in the books

Sabre, just because "code" has labels using words like that does not constitute a copyright mark. It is not a copyright mark unless it says "copyright."

Sabre™

Ok.
Well, I will now opt out of this convo, as I do not want to engage in anything I dont even use myself.
My friendships are not worth the stress :)     Correct? ;)

Keep smiling peeps, its not worth a headache?? ??   lol

I see the winkie. :)

Officially, the Customization Team does not review already approved modification packages except in the case of security vulnerabilities. We do not have the resources to go back over already plowed ground and take second looks at already approved packages. Maybe this mod should not have been approved for the reason I indicated, but that is ancient history now.

Oh, Justin, and this: :P :P :P

Sabre, it appears to me with a quick look at the code that the author made it intentionally difficult to remove his advertisement. Moving the advert text to the language strings would make it pretty easy to get rid of the commercial, so I suspect that the author would not be amenable to making the indicated changes.

And besides, the author has made only two posts here at SMF!!! Let me repeat this. The person who wrote this mod package has posted ONLY TWICE in all of recorded history!

He has had 3 automated posts made as a result of the Custom Team approving his mod and the automated software made the posts like the OP in our current discussion. The other two posts are trivial and inconsequential.

This is not the sign of somebody who has a community interest in SMF or the SMF software. In my opinion it is indicative of somebody who is helping themselves.

Reverend Jeremiah

By the way Deprecated, Im using your "bakers dozen" and "The rules" mods and I LOVE them! Great job on those.

This is why I pointed this out on the first page. I don't post very often myself, but read a lot and am very observant.  It doesn't seem to me that the author has any concern for the SMF community whatsoever. I tried this mod out of curiosity and was not impressed.

It may not seem be very time efficient  to do as Sabre mentioned- to manually code menu tabs, especially in my case with 11 member selectable themes installed. That is a lot of coding on 11 index templates, but to me it is worth knowing that they are in conformity to the rest of the SMF structure.  Besides, even with this mod installed, all non default themes must still be manually edited. It seems a better choice to learn to manually code a menu and not depend upon a modification.  :)

Sabre™

You buddy deserve a medal modding 11 themes!! lol
I usually run 2 other than the default, and that does me! lol
Im certainly not as patient and giving as you, but I make up for it with my irresistible charm and handsome appearance :D :D  lol
Yep, as I stated earlier, it didnt take me long to figure out how to add links/tabs to my menu, and I guarantee that once youve done it a few times, you fly through them pretty easily.
But first you must be charmingly handsome like me, or you'd have no chance!!  lol  ;)

Naturally. Much like my avvie, who is also my real dog.  :D Coding 11 themes is slightly time consuming I can assure you. I am going to eliminate about half of those by the end of the year. I have my forum set for default for newcomers and guests, and give everyone a range of choices for themes. There are a few that do not have much use, so it will be time to trim some soon.

Yeah, like that horrendous pink one...which is a slightly twisted reminder of that very twisted pink site... ;D

The author of this mod has made only 2 posts in the 7 months since he has joined SMF. The chances of him answering you are pretty slim.

I'd say don't plan on any upgrades.

Good Jer. I am an amateur comedian. If they told me I couldn't be funny I'd quit the site in a New York minute.

I don't get paid for this. My amusement is my only payment. Take that away and you wouldn't see me here either. At all.

But no worry. Nobody has told me I can't be funny. Eh, Amy? ;)

smf v1.1.7
I chose this topic because my issue arose while attempting to install, uninstall this specific mod.  If I have posted this request for help on the wrong board, I apologize and will re-post it were I am directed to so.

I am not a coder.  I am like a lot of newbies who simply find the code and add or replace the given mod codes and can do it accurately.  I have done a few mods succesfully and I was confident that I did this one correctly as well.

However, after manually installing the mod, I got several parsing errors involving the template file.  The first begandwith that inserted "advertisement" code and after that, all the errors revovled around the mod code insertions.   I decided to dump the mod.  After removing the entire modification from all the files involved and the additional files icluded in the zip, I still got parsing errors.  I checked my the code again and could not identify anythig I missed, but when I followed the parsing error highlighted code lines, it identified a ; and </td> which were located before the code I had inserted and did not appear to fit in with the original code.  I continued to get additional parsing errors so I decided to just restore my last, clean back up of the smf database.

After doing so, when clicking on the bookmark for smf, I got the following message:

Template Parse Error!
It seems something has gone sour on the forum with the template system. This problem should only be temporary, so please come back later and try again. If you continue to see this message, please contact the administrator.

You can also try refreshing this page.

I waitied a half hour with the same results and re-loaded the database back-up again.

This was at 5 am.  At noon, I tried the link to my smf again and I was given the log-in screen for my FlashChat which is included in my smf database.  The flashChat operated fine, but when I try to open the smf program, I still get the same message.  I also have coppermine, which is bridged to smf, just as my FlashChat is, and coppermine will not load either, even though it is in a separate database.

I would have thought that restoring the clean database would have cured the problem.  I don't know what to do.

- Mark
