Problem with FTP

when I try to install the package, it tells me to put in my FTP info, which is correct, but then it gives me:
Session verification failed. Please try logging out and back in again, and then try again.
I did that and it still doesn't work.  I can access my cPanel.

I've been getting the same problem. I'm trying to do quick reply and shoutbox, and every version seems to do that. I have everything correct.

I'm not convinced you don't just have an FTP problem, probably with what you are entering for FTP user, password, etc.

Can you FTP to your site? (I mean not using SMF.)

I can access it through my cPanel, so yes.

So yes, no. Accessing it through your cPanel is not FTP.

Please answer the question. But before you do that, use any FTP client and FTP to the site, then tell me if you can see your files.

You can either get or create your FTP account via your cPanel. If you cannot do this, either ask here or ask your hosting service. (Which is who?)

actually Depreciated, i do believe them..


im having to manually install mods on a clients site due to the same error. i can not install nor delete any mods because of the error.. patch was applied, and yes the ftp does work.. so what do you think it could be??

There are many reasons why the FTP credentials don't work, and in my experience most of them are (1) user error, and (2) believing the defaults that SMF provides.

well.. lol.. thats a fun way to look at it.. 

i do not think i am entering any errors, so we can rule out that PEBKAC 

i think it has something to do with the patch/update, and really, its becoming a pita for me, and if i am having issues with it, i know others are as well..

Maybe 70 percent of the time the SMF defaults are right (a good record). Maybe of those 30 percent left, 90 percent of the users couldn't figure it out if I wrote the answer on a cocktail napkin.

Don't mean to demean anybody, but SMF is so newbie friendly that most of the people running forums are NOT technical people, are not nerds.

It's a great credit to SMF that so many non-technical people manage to run SMF forums, and a great credit to those non-technical people that they are able to tackle such a formidable challenge, and succeed!

And then there's the 7 percent who think SMF must be broke because they can't get it to work.

well i tell ya what Depreciated lol.. 

if you would like to look at this situation with me, and see if "i broke" or if "smf broke", i got one last mod to get in.. and personally, i never said anything on "SMF must be broke because they can't get it to work." but im more than willing to show and you tell what exactly is happening as, we have 7% saying something about it.

so let me know if you can, if not then i have a few other options i want to check out as well.. so either way..

I know how to put the correct settings.  It works on my upgraded 1.1.7 board (different site, same server) but does not work on a fresh 1.1.7 install.
