Hi!

I just saw this post and I have one suggestion.

I think that having the team take ownership of any mods or themes defeats the purpose of trying to grow third party development.

If the team takes it over, it stops being third party.  This is the opposite of growing third party development.

Why not one list of SMF Official Modifications? Modifications that would have SMF Support and guarantee of upgrade through the newest versions.

What do you think about this? I know that should increase (a lot) the team's work, but I think that should be a nice thing to do :) Or, why not a new team just for this?

SMF 7 is where it gets good. That has time travel. You can go back and post before the guy who flamed you. :P

I do not think it is do-able.  The team needs to be able to focus on the core of SMF and maintain and grow it in itself.

I do not think we can expect our support team to learn a plethora of mods on top of the default install, nor expect a single team to develop and maintain that plethora of mods.  You simply cannot put that much strain on a small team of people.  Not and expect them not to crash and burn.

I'm not going to say its not a good idea, and I would like to see more team-collaborated mods, but it would likely mean a lesser level of quality and stability in everything else if we keep stretching everything as thin.

I personally think the better answer is to culture and grow the community's third party customizers better.   As they grow, the quality of their works should grow as well.  The team's place here is to maintain the SMF the core distribution and culture the community.  After all, the community is everything thats important.

I am not talking about 1000 Mods but about 10 MODs, or maybe less. Only the "official SMF Mods".

What I mean is, turn "Official" those MODs that people use more but the team don't expect (for now) to take them to the SMF's new version Core, for example, the Ads Management MOD.

Just a few MODs, just turn them as SMF's Official ;) (it the author agrees, of course!)
