Move post function

Hi all.

Is there a way to move a post from one thread to another?

I can see the split topics option, and the merge topic option.   But if someone posts by mistake to the wrong thread, there doesn't seem any way to simply move it to the correct thread.

Or am I missing something?  :-[

I'm looking through right now and I don't see a way to do that either. The best thing I can say is to have that member delete his/her post and re-post it in the correct thread.

Thanks, I did think about asking them to do this, but I worked out a way to do it by splitting the topic to it's own topic, then merging it to the correct topic.   This is a long and confusing way to do though IMO.

Other forums I've moderated in the past, and one I'm moderating now (neither SMF), have a simple move post function.   I would have thought this to be a standard feature for admins and mods, in any forum. ;)

I think this just gave me inspiration for a new MOD. I'll get to work on it right away :P

That would be a great help if you could.  I'm sure others would love that function.  ;)

JBlaze,

Do you reckon it's possible to make this mod?  Because I never quite understood why this wasn't a standard feature of SMF, and wondered if there was a reason for not including it.

Hopefully it will be included as standard in later versions.  ;)

I think it's possible, as it would only mean combining the split this post function, with merge function to make them work together. I'm no coder though, so I can only hope someone else makes it actually work. :P

How you can help SMF

JBlaze

It's possible. Anything is possible with SMF :P

This may take about a week or so as my schedule lately is very busy >:(

You mean even 2.x hasn't got this reature?   It should be a standard feature for any forum, in fact it is for most.   Wonder if JBlaze has had any joy with it yet. ;)

There is no need for a mod.  To move a post your split the post from the topic where you don't want it.  This will create a new topic.  Then merge that topic with the correct topic.  This performs the same function as a move post.

OK I've tried to live with this problem since my last post. ;)

JimM, While I agree this can be done in that way, I reckon it's a very confusing and long winded way of moving a post.   I would still love it if someone could make a mod for this.  I would have thought that any decent forum software should have these basic functions. Move Topic (which it has), and Move post.   I'm sure others would love this feature in SMF.

JBlaze, if you're still listening, please, pretty please. :)

Hello, do you still require help on this?
About the mod request, perhaps a post to Mod Requests board will help. (in case you didn't already, that is)
To-do lists are for deferral. The more things you write down the later they're done... until you have 100s of lists of things you don't do.

Hi Norv. Yes would still love to get some help on this.  A mod would be great.  And no I haven't posted in the mod requests board.  Thanks I'll do that ASAP.  ;)

JimM

Normally we would just move this topic to the mod request board.  Norv, we don't normally suggest posting a request when this topic already contains the discussion.  Instead we offer to move the topic.

Having said that, lurkalot if you have already posted the request there, let me know and I will just lock this topic.

My mistake, thanks for handling it, JimM.
