Compatibility

The "Blink BBCode" is compatible for both only SMF 2.0.X. It will soon be updated for 1.1.X.

Features

The Blink BBCode modification adds a BBCode button next to the "Marquee" button on the post page. You can use the [blink] BBCode to make all of the text within the tags flash between being invisible, and what is actually there constantly.

Installation

Install this modification through the package manager. It only extracts one image file, and edits two, so nothing should go wrong.

Changelog

Version 1.0 - July 10 2009
* The initial release of the "Blink BBCode"

hello!

why the mod wors only with firefox and non with ie?

thx

FragaCampos

Hello there.
What's the difference between this mod and this?

TheListener

This mod is compatable with 2.0 whereas the other mod isn't.

Also with the other mod I believe manual installing would be necessary due to the age of the mod.

Liam.

I will also update this mod to 1.1.X if people want it to. (sorry for the late replies by the way) That Blink mod, besides being old for SMF, used an older and more complicated HTML code to get it working - wheras this is up-to-date and simple.

FragaCampos

Thanks.
If possible, I would like to have it for SMF 1.1.10 :)

I've had this one on my 1.1.0 forum for a long time.  It shows 1.1.3, but it can be parsed for 1.1.10.

My apologies, but I am taking a break from accepting PM requests for support.  If I am not currently assisting you, please do not ask as long as this notice is posted.  Thank you.

A reminder about admin / ftp passwords etc.

Liam.

Well since that one works; and SMF 1.1.X won't be updated much further now, I will NOT update this mod for SMF 1.1.X

Arantor

Mod site cannot parse it for 2.0 RC2 and it won't work properly anyway due to a number of changes in the code.

Oh, and <file name="$sourcedir/Subs-Editor.php"> doesn't have a matching </file>

This does not work with RC2. It says that the file is corrupt or the version is not compatible.

Yup, as I pointed out a week ago. The author has not bothered to actually check it with RC2, and had he done so he would have found it wouldn't work anyway.

Liam.

This has now been updated to work with SMF 2.0 RC2.

Nice Mod

Please update it for SMF 2.0RC3  ;)

Thanks

It still does not work in RC2 with IE....it does work with Firefox tho.

What do I need to do to get it to work with IE?

Liam.

Eww, Internet Explorer? Well, which version isn't it working with? I'm not going anywhere near IE6, but if it doesn't work with IE8, I'll take a look. A simple Google Search "IE8 CSS Blink" may yeild some results for me to add.

Raffoz

Installed perfectly, but it doesn't work here, with Safari for Mac and Chrome for Mac.
MacOsX (last)
SMF 2.0.15 and 2.1.2 (different forums)
Chrome (last) or Safari (last)

Can you please update this mod for SMF 2.0 RC4  :)

Have you tried the emulate option?

The mod works on RC4 already.

Sorry, but i don't know what "emulate option" is  :(

TheListener

On the mod installation page at the bottom on the right hand side is a link which says advanced.

Once there you should see a box asking for the version number of the forum.

Make sure you put 2.0 RC3

Mate, i'm looking for RC4  :)
Do yoy sey that parse for RC3 work in RC4?

TheListener

For this particular mod it does.

Baby Daisy

I'll be giving a huge overhaul to this mod along with the bbc mods that I recently acquired.

In addition I will give SMF 1.1 support.

Thank you for the wonderful mod!  I thought I'd let everybody know that when I updated my forum from 2.0 RC5 to 2.0 Gold, I had to reinstall all my mods.  This mod installed without issues and using 2.0 RC5 emulation.  Hope this info helps someone!

Siirist

Hi,

Want to thank Baby Daisy for taking over this mod (or at least that is what I understand).  :)
Upgraded to ver 2.0 Final yesterday.
Only using default theme at this time.
Installed without issues.
Um, doesn't work.  :(

This edit is missing from the file which is why despite the full install, the mod won't work.

Siirist

Hi Brack,  :)

So is that why it doesn't work for me as well?  ???

If that piece of code is missing then I'd think it was obvious.

Right, okay, will check on that then.

Use the parser.

The parser is no good in regards to the Subs-Editor.php

File Edits
./Themes/default/languages/Modifications.english.php
Find (at the end of the file):

?>

Add Before:

$txt['blink'] = 'Blink';

Hmmm......

Actually since RC4 the mod has used integration hooks so source file edits are not required.  Not sure why its not working for you, I'll have to look at those other mods you have installed.

Siirist

It is my hope that one day I will have the knowledge
and perhaps the experience,
to understand why and how mods effect each other.
I thank you Spuds, for this undertaking that is not yours, yet is still taken as though it was.  ;)

I see the problem ... dumb mistake ... look in your sources directory for Subs-Blinkbbc.php and change it to Subs-blinkbbc.php (lowercase b on Blink) .... the integration hooks are really in place to help avoid mods from stepping on one another, so as things mature under 2.0 you should see fewer problems.

I have two browsers on my PC. I installed this mod on ver. 2.0 but it only works in Firefox 5, not in IE 9.

Siirist

Personally, I have found IE nothing short of disappointing.  >:(

For that reason, I provide links on all my sites for downloading Mozilla Firefox.  ;)

However, as of the last upgrade to ver 5.0, it too is um, problematic.  :(

Best of luck,

The update only allowed the mod to be installed in newer releases of SMF.

As already stated IE, Chrome and Safari don't support blink by blinking the text.  The property only allows authors to suggest that text should blink, but the standard says that "conforming user agents may simply not blink the text" in order that they can comply with the User Agent Accessibility Guidelines.

thanks for the quick reply
