Somes Suggestions for curve
« on: November 01, 2009, 05:14:11 AM »
Excuse me for this rotten English (euhhh rotten ? nice google hhh), the original message was in Arabic before I translated into English by google translation :p

Hello,

I expressed in my modests suggestions and improvements for the new style curve, I hope they will be adapted to future versions of the theme ^^

1 - Improve the design and quote code

> Good is true that there's been an improvement over the old styles, but this is not enough, personally I propose:

for quote style :

for code:

2- Add buttons to quote, edit, delete text instead of icons accompanied by a text (a little ugly in my opinion)

3 - To better distinguish the topics singled / normal subjects, here I added an icon to the left and a bar to distinguish the types of subjects:

4 - Finding better images for the subjects read and unread topics, these currents are ugly and we do not see too much difference

here if there's an answer to a subject i replaced  "normal_post.gif" by "normal_post_new.gif"

I would not hesitate to share with you my suggestions:)

Point 3 I agree with you. Also what is missing in SMF is global announcement topic which can be viewed in all forums/subforums.

There's a mod for that. Have a search for 'global' on the mod site, IIRC.

Point 1: I don't personally like that style, I feel it breaks it up too much. There have already been discussions on changing the quote style. (Bear in mind that I spend 12+ hours most days staring at Curve.)

Point 2: It's a theme change. It won't be in Curve by default, I suspect. Note that Core before it did exactly the same.

Point 3: Note that the colour is also different in the background too.

Point 4: There's no icon like you're suggesting in Curve. Instead there is this which appears by threads you haven't read yet/fully:

Point 2 is also hard on translation since if you use graphical buttons, you'd need to make legible images for each item. Classic and Babylon did that, and there is a reason we've moved away from it.

Perhaps the buttonlist class could be a viable alternative for this?

Yes, I know but would be better to have this option as additional (like sticky, locked etc.).

It's not going to be in 2.0. I don't think it'll be in 2.1; certainly no-one has mentioned it being in 2.1.

So what would you change with it?

The idea is to represent the layout on the page...

Hadn't checked that one but yes, it is bad. I certainly have some ideas for sorting it so will take a closer look.
Alternative colour schemes for the new Curve theme
