Two posting in a topic at the same time .. problem?

I am using 1.1.11  with no private add-ons.
When a member goes into a topic and enters a reply.
When he finishes a red warning comes up telling him that someone has sent a msge in that same topic whilst he was sending and that he should check in case he wants to change his reply. 
When he looks there is nothing new in the topic and on occasions no-one on the forum either.

He is the only person to have suggested there may be a problem, and I can't replicate it.

Is this a fault please?   ... if so, any ideas for a fix?

Has the post just before his been edited by its poster?

That is such a sensible question ... I wish i had thought of it myself.

The reason I ask is that editing a post does alter some things about it, even if the grace period for showing the post was edited hasn't elapsed.

Alternatively, the post may have been added and deleted - that would trigger the same thing happening.

It seems that it doesn't happen every time.

It doesn't follow edits etc.

It isn't a major problem, by any means, it means he just has to try again.

Interesting though.

Actually, I think he can even disable that message from his profile options (look and layout preferences) if he wanted.
