That was why vBulletin had the version taken off. At least the last time I was with them they did.

I think one should be able to pay to have the brand taken off.

If sercurity was my concern, I would never pay for the brand to be taken off after reading the above comments..

Attempts dont care the software or version. They come and seek for any vulnerability..

Yup, most if not all modern attacks don't even care if you are running the software they are attacking - they just test blindly...
I see all kinds of strange url patterns on my logs every now and then, including but not limited to phpbb and wordpress related urls, and I've never run either on the domain :P

On a well configured server, it's really rare to see a bot break anything except your errorlog :P
So if this is common for you, perhaps you should talk to your host.

the host is GoDaddy professional.....lol pretty expensive, i think they keep they're servers maintained....I think the bots just stumbled upon a bug with the SMF code.

People who do not obide by the software licenses (especially when it is FREE) should be hunted down and slaughtered!  On second thought, maybe that's a bit too extreme...lol.  There is better things to do with your time rather than waste a ton of it trying to remove a copyright when you have absolutely no rights to!  In any case, this is the risk that all software creators/authors take.  And a lawsuit on your hands, being sued, and/or going to jail over something as stupid as this, is definitely not worth it!!  But there is stupidity in all walks of life, it a shame though that we haven't evolved out of this yet :(  More like devolving, as it gets more and more difficult to even trust people these days and way easier to hate than it is to love.  So sad....

I doubt someone would give SMF less credit when they see the site. I mean they do see that it is a SMF forum not a custom made one in PHP (which in that case should be like 92 times less efficient and less featured) without a copyright on the bottom.

We do sometimes come across sites that have gone to great lenghts to hide the software, including but not limited to removing certain actions, modifying source to eliminate SMF references etc...
