include integration into existsin cms

intergrating with existing site, i have a site which works of a cms system and uses smf forums, how ever the forums are treated as a seperate entity.

can i include the forums code into the template of the existing php system. all solutions i have found so far seem todo it the other way aroud and include the existing site into the forums template file.

this will not really work because it conflicts with the code of the current system.

i tried straight out using a php include command this sort of works it displays correclty but you can no longer login.

i woudl appreciate any suggestiosn or a link if it has been discussed else where.
