Ever since I upgraded to SMF2 RC2 from SMF 1.1.11 the news in the administration center has not been updating.

The Fetch Simple Machines Files task is scheduled, and running it produces no errors in the log. There are also no errors when going to the administration center. This happens across all browsers and computers, and none of them have JS blockers.

I recently upgraded to RC3 from RC2, and I was hoping this would be fixed after I did so. I used the minimal package, and copied everything over the server.

After running the upgrade process...I opened the admin page to check, it was still blank. I figured it was just because it hadn't updated yet. So I refreshed the page a couple of times, and it showed up! Unfortunately that was the only time it showed the news, and connected to SMF. It has not done it since, and I cannot get it to show, no matter how many times I run the process.

This is quite annoying as it used to work properly in SMF1.1.x

Strange. Have you tried clearing your browsers cookies and cache? I know you said you tried it on multiple computers, but its worth a try.

Thank you for the reply, yes, I have, I'm positive it's not a browser issue, I've also tried to view this on multiple machines, browsers, etc.

This issue is still occurring, I have not seen a news feed show up since that initial time right after I upgraded...

No one has any suggestions on where to look? I do not mind sifting through code.

Unlike 1.1 which did it every page load, 2.0 caches it on a scheduled task. You need to check with your host that fsockopen is enabled (IIRC, that's how it gets it, anyway) and that there are no firewall restrictions.

Indeed. 2.0 uses the fetch_web_data(); function in ./Sources/Subs-Packages.php to fetch the data from the simplemachines.org news file.

Check with your host.

That must be the reason, I know my host has fsockopen turned off. Thanks for the information guys.
