where to place random image script

Being a newbie, I have two questions about a random image php script I obtained today

1. Where do I put this script for the random images - in the display template file in a new section or does it go out into its own file?

2. I want to call that script in a table. When I put the image source in, I notice that other table cells call $ settings, images_url. When I call this script, HOW do I call the php script in display images template or from the new file?

How do I do that?

You'll want the script separate and you'll want to access it for the random image, in most cases.

You could put it anywhere you want.
