What is the difference between an announcement and a sticky?

I know what a sticky is, but what are the features and functions of announcements?

I'm creating stickies and would like to make a few of them global. The 2.0 RC3 global announcement mod talks about making annoucnements into stickies.

But what are the benefits and features of announcements themselves? The term makes me think they are more temprorary or recent news, whereas I'm writign some guidelines.

I personally would say announcements are not long term and therefore better placed in the newsfader section.

My news fader was made into a scroller and renamed.

Sticky topics are more for the permanent announcements which you would want everyone to see all the time.

Does that mean that announcements have an automatic expire or delete time?

No they don't. You remove them yourself when you are done with them.
