temp folder

I'm having problems with my temp folder in my Package dir.  Everytime I hit install the temp folder is changed from 777 to a 755 and then I get an HTTP error 500. If I try to install a mod after the temp is changed I'm given the error: You cannot download or install new packages because the Packages directory or one of the files in it are not writable!  I chmod back to 777 then I get the readme's again along with the Test successful.

Odd . . . as i was writing this post I reset the permission again to 777 and this time it looks like they stayed and let me install the mods.  Anyone have any ideas why it was changing?

Maybe your host was playing around with something, or your host blocks access to 777. But it would be weird because no matter what if your host was blocking 777, it should of never worked...
