Shortcut Threads

I find my members repeating some threads in many boards, and although it's annoying and there's one of those boards that's the most appropriate for it, I can't really say it doesn't fit in the other ones...

it's about some artists, and there's a board for each, but also a general board, and some things fit in both... or even more, if it's a news article or a presentation date, there's boards for that too

so instead of having independent threads on each, with different or repeated replies, I thought this could be cool... having only one real thread and then others as shortcuts to that thread

the shortcuts wouldn't be real threads, just redirections to the original, where everyone can reply and it'd follow a normal behaviour, instead of a 'split personality'  ::)

but, if a person enters the thread through one of the shortcuts, it'd seem it's in that board, not changing him to the other board, so it won't be confusing to navigate with these teleportation-threads around  :P

maybe it should be put in other words, a thread which can belong to more than one board, and be displayed accordingly...

it should probably be grouped with the "additional options" in the post form, as a drop down or textarea with all the boards to select from... or like it's done in the search page, with checkboxes

I don't know if this ability should be available to every member group or only gmod/admin... this could be convenient for global announcement stickies too, making it as simple as select every board and stick it

Well, this is certainly a mod... but what is wrong with a iurl link?

they won't do it, they'll simply copy paste their message in each board like they do now... they'd use the normal url tag if they cared

also, it'll make it harder to browse a board, cause there'll be threads sending you to other boards, making it confusing to navigate

the feature, in few words, would be to be able to assign more than one board to a thread, so that it'll be normally shown in each

I was thinking of writting it as a mod, but thought I'd make the request and see if others liked it ;D

I think that something like this would require and extra table, to establish the relationships between boards and threads

what if someone just chances to name a thread the same in one board, as someone else does in another board, but the body is different?  would it have to evaluate the message as well as the subject title, to determine if it is simply a duplicate subject, or also the same message body?  And what about replies to that subject, which would all have the same title (e.g. Re: subject, Re: subject, etc.)?

if you start more than one thread in the same board with the same subject in your yabbse install, it works, of course it's not prefered... when that happens in my community, I look at the member that started the thread to recognize them, or change the subject of one a bit

it'd be like any other normal thread, only that it'd show in more than one board

probably the confusion comes from me first thinking of it as a thread with shortcuts to it, but while writting the idea, I realize it's simpler and better to be able to have the thread in more than one board
