For some reason as of last night i am unable to post links in the shoutbox that have http:// at the front.

This also affects the downloads section giving me the following error:

Forbidden

You don't have permission to access /index.php on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Any ideas anyone?

kat

You might get the help you need, more quickly, if you post in the mod's support topic.

On the mod's download page, click "Support and comments for this mod".

I just uninstalled the downloads mod and the bug still remains in the Shoutbox.

Shoutbox is part of the portals mod, so should i post there?

Even if that is the case, what's the likeliness of the same bug affecting both mods simultaneously?

I don't particularly want to uninstall every single mod, i was just wanted to know if anyone else has had this problem before.

kat

Yeah, again, they'll know more in the portal topic.

Plus, if anyone else has had this problem, they'll most likely have posted, there.

Not that you've actually told us which portal it is...

SimplePortal.

I've just done a few more tests and i believe this issue is not mod related at all.

Other than the forum, the site refuses to use the code http://

Why on earth would it do that?

www.zombiemodding.com

You will need to register an account to see the shoutbox though.

I've spent most the day trying to figure this out and i'm still confused, the only thing i noticed was that the before when i posted a link, the forum automatically inputted the BBC code [url= etc but it no longer does this.

I enabled and disabled the settings in Manage Posts and Topics / Bulletin Board Code Settings hoping it would fix it but still no joy.

kat

Just had a thought...

Why not just post links, there, without using the http:// ?

Browsers will know, nowadays, anyway, without it having to be there.

You don't happen to have word censoring that could be affecting it?

DarkflameQ

Yeah i know, i just find it strange that links with http:// were fine last night but suddenly stopped working for no reason.

No changes to the settings had been made, so it worries me that this could be a symptom of a bigger problem.

Checked censored words, i do have the usual culprits but none that are close to http.

Interesting thing is that you can type http:/ but not http://, so it's definitely a predefined BBC setting that is causing the problem.

DarkflameQ

Just an update:

I searched the site for:

Forbidden

You don't have permission to access /index.php on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
Apache/2.2.15 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.2.15 OpenSSL/0.9.8n DAV/2 mod_fcgid/2.3.5 mod_auth_passthrough/2.1 mod_bwlimited/1.4 FrontPage/5.0.2.2635 Server at www.zombiemodding.com Port 80

And on a few threads it was suggested that the host was to blame, not the software.

I've sent them a support ticket just in case this is what's happened, it certainly would make sense since the problem happened out of no where without any settings being changed so.

Both my problems occurred at the same time, so perhaps it is all to do with permissions and the /index.php file, i've already used an FTP client to make sure the folders are 755 and files are 644, so there isn't anything wrong with them on my side.

kat

That would be true for it not being able to find a 404 file.

Not really, though, coz you can make one, yourself.

Your host will probably say that. ;)

Not with index.php being not readable, though. Try looking in FTP and make it writable.

Current permissions is 644, i can make it 744 but anything else causes it to stop working.

kat

What about 777?

I'm not even sure it's the index.php that's in the root of the site, to be honest.

Just had a thought, based on another topic I've been tearing my hair out at...

Also, i've been trying to find the support section for the 'Download System' mod by vbgamer45 but having very little luck finding it, even the download page doesn't have a link :\

kat

I'm curious, now...

What happens if you disable the portal?

Can you do that, with the version you have?

That support topic's here: http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=203471.0

DarkflameQ

I can disable it, but it doesn't fix my forbidden problem.

And of course i can't test the shout box :P

Thanks for that link, gonna post my problem there also.

kat

OK.

I'm killing someone's database, at the moment.

I'll look in, again, later. :)

DarkflameQ

It was all an Issue with mod_security which got activated at host level somehow.

They disabled it and everything works fine now, thanks for all the help kat! ;)

kat

OO! I hadn't thought of that!

One to remember for the future, I reckon.

Ta, for letting us know about that one! (Bloody hosts. Grumble-mutter-mumble-mumble....)
