Do you have any mods installed?
"Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."

Ashley S

No. i am using a free hosting company.

-> www.ulmb.com Ive used SMF with them plenty of times and haven't had this problem.

xenovanis

Is this a fresh installation then? Are there any errors in your log?

Ashley S

Yeah it's a fresh installation. There is no errors in the error logs.

xenovanis

Try uploading the files from the installationpackage again, except

install.php
*.sql
Settings.php
Settings_bak.php

Could have been a glitch in the uploadprocess.

Seriously, UnlimitedMB?  :-X

I can't find a better free hosting than them. Because all the other free hostings are slow connection or ad pop-ups :D.

xenovanis

I'm sure they do. It's just.. there's no such thing as unlimited :P

All free hosts have limits and don't think twice before suspending people. The best thing to do would be to host with smfforfree or something.

Oh yeah, i saw this problem in another topic long time ago but I don't know if that got solved.

Ashley S

O.O.

smf_2-0-rc3_install.zip/Packages/.htaccess - File or Folder name cannot begin with a dot.
smf_2-0-rc3_install.zip/Packages/backups/.htaccess - File or Folder name cannot begin with a dot.
smf_2-0-rc3_install.zip/cache/.htaccess - File or Folder name cannot begin with a dot.
smf_2-0-rc3_install.zip/attachments/.htaccess - File or Folder name cannot begin with a dot.

I re-uploaded all the files and folders and got that error.

Hosting problem, maybe or server problem.

The server is probably seeing .htaccess as a normal file.

xenovanis

Umm

Did you extract the package before uploading or are you trying to extract it on your server? Extracting on your local machine before uploading might work better.

Read and replied. I can't give because we have a pretty big surprise coming up in a week or two :) Let's just say that getting a managed VPS will be affordable very soon.

Anyways, now that I think of your problem... Could that be that the host is trying to add a footer on your forum? I doubt it, but it's possible. I've seen SMF forums with footers for installatron when they were installed with autoinstaller.

Ashley S

LOL. It's nothing to do with that. Ive fixed it anyways

Cya.
