The topic or board you are looking for appears to be either missing or off limit

I had a ton of trouble updating the database from 1.1.11 to 2.0RC3 so I backed up my forum folder and did a backup of the database. Then I deleted the SMF forum database and the folder located on my server. I then reinstalled SMF 1.1.11 using my GoDaddy hosting control center. Then i performed an update using my ftp to 2.0RC3. Then I uploaded my database backup.

On the third or fourth try this finally worked - however everytime I click on a post I get the error that says 'The topic or board you are looking for appears to be either missing or off limits to you.' always with a similar ending on the address bar 'forum/index.php?topic=6067.msg2;boardseen#new''. There are around 200,000 posts that are just gone.

I have:
Gone into mysql and analyzed, checked, repaired, etc
Gone into admin on the forum and recounted, optimized, find and repair errors, etc
I have checked my repair_settings.php
It says that I have no mods installed yet when I did the backup I had quite a few on the original forum.

I have NOT uploaded my original forum folder yet, I was waiting until I had everything operating smoothly. Would any of these original files make a difference if I uploaded them?

I'm at a standstill, I don't know what to do next. www.megansmadams.com/forum

Thank you for any help!

JBlaze

So basically you restored a 1.1.x database into a 2.0 RC3 forum...

That won't work. You need to run the upgrade on the database you are going to use as well.

JBlaze beat me  :P

What trouble did you experience during the upgrade, what made you decide to do this complicated workaround?

I was having a problem while updating from RC2 to RC3.

Please be patient - this may take some time on large forums. The time elapsed increments from the server to show progress is being made!

Does that still mean that I need to run the upgrade on the database? I thought I did already but I'll go read the link you posted to make sure because at this point, 3 days later, I'm so confused I don't know which way is up.

xenovanis

I'd suggest reuploading all files from the (large) upgradepackage again and make sure the existing files are overwritten. Then run the upgrade again and see how that goes.

It's a good thing you made a backup before starting the first attempt to upgrade. :) If this doesn't work, the quick fix to get your forum running again would be restoring the latest 1.1.11 backup and connect it to a new installed 1.1.11 forum. Which gives us time to look into the problem.

I reuploaded the update to no avail. So I deleted everything and installed 1.1.11 and then imported original saved database. That too isn't working. I'm getting an error that says:
Database Error: Unknown column 'logTime' in 'where clause'
File: /home/content/m/e/g/megansma/html/forum/Sources/Subs.php
Line: 2582

So frustrating

kat

Just thinking out loud, here...

If you import a database, but the database already exists, will the import totally overwrite the old one, or kinda merge with it?

Try deleting the database, before importing it. (If any of that makes sense)

xenovanis

Depends on how the backup was made. If there 's a DROP TABLE command included for every table, it does clear any table with an identical name and built a new one based on the information of the backup.

jeri, this backup was made prior to your first attempt to upgrade? It restored without returing any errormessages?

What about tables that exist in the current, yet don't in the restored?

If the current db has a table named say, "Armadillo", but the restored one doesn't, does it automatically remove it? Or, would it still exist?

(Just curious)

No, in that case it won't be touched, since MySQL will be looking for a table with an identical name.

DROP TABLE IF EXISTS `smf_tablerow`;

OK, basically the OP needs to restore his backup onto a 1.1.11 install, then from there run the 2.0 RC3 upgrade.

You CANNOT use a 1.1.11 database on a 2.0 install. There have been too many changes since 1.1.x in the database, including the removal of camelCase columns/tables/rows

JBlaze

It may. All he needs to do upload the 1.1.11 files, edit Settings.php with his database information, then run the upgrade.

Does this mean to drop all the tables in mysql and then import the backup file again?
