I have moved my forum from a sub domain to the main domain. I then knew because of this all the links would of been wrong, so i downloaded the repair_settings.php file and uploaded that and opened that tool by typing it in the browser. I selected the correct options to make sure all the links were changed to the new domain, and changed all the paths correctly.

After this it all worked fine, but then every time a new post was made it would take you to this page
http://forum.jgblogging.com/improvements/graphics-totorials-section/?action=deletemsg;msg=308;ab87fa0a9=62d5c52f7080f9d5d20cdfa3449dbd0c

I then refreshed my forum in the page i posted on, the post i just made was posted, but then the link was wrong, and now on that topic i can not remove a post or do anything because it has gone back to the old URL.

To show you an example of this visit my forum index here http://jgblogging.com as you can see in the last column all of the posts say the correct URL http://jgblogging.com/.... but the last few say http://forum.jgblogging.com/...... and also in the recent posts table at the bottom of my forum some of them say the wrong URL.

Please anyone help me and advise me on what to do, thankyou very much

JGBlogging

just an update, what i have found to be the problem is that every new post i make acts as if it is on the old domain, as all of the admin buttons in the post all point to the http://forum.jgblogging.com/.... but all the original post point to the correct location.

Even any new modifications i make to any posts take me to that 404 page

I have used that tool, that is what i have done and it still doesn't work!

Are you using a custom theme? You probably need to reset the url and paths for this, since repair_settings only corrects the default theme.

Admin -> Themes and Layout -> Theme Settings
"Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."

JGBlogging

yes i am using a custom theme, and i have already done that, its weird isnt it, any more ideas?

CapadY

did you empty your forum cache ?

I think in settings.php is a path to the cache files. This path isn't corrected by "repair_settings", try to correct this path manualy.
Please, don't PM me for support unless invited.

JGBlogging

ok, i will empty out my cache, thanks for the idea. I will update this post after i have done it.

CapadY

also check the path to the cache in settings.php

Have you tried rebuilding the pretty Url cache ?

JGBlogging

#10
yeah i have found out that it is the pretty url mod, i have removed it and the urls now work, but when i reinstall the mod it still continues to rewrite them as http://forum.jgblogging...

So how do i make them rewirite using the correct url

sAce

delete the old .htaccess file, and make a new one

JGBlogging

o right ok, and how do i make a new one, sorry to keep asking things.

and also replace which .htaccess file

sAce

there is only one,

just edit the file and delete the entries made by P-Url mod, then save and CHMOD to 777

re activate the pretty url , it should put in the correct rules,

JGBlogging

o right ok i will do that thanks, and to be honest i dont have a clue what CHMOD means.

------------------ UPDATE

I have opened up the file, it was in the root directory (is that right)

and now i delete the text made by the pretty url mod, but the thing is all of the text is the mod.

JGBlogging

Ok i did it and it didnt work, but i didnt do that CHMOD thing whatever that is

Set file permission to 777 ( writable ) if its not getting written , then copy the rules from Pretty url mod Settings area to .htaccess file

ACP > Pretty Url > Settings

enable rewrite

check the urls, then enable

JGBlogging

thankyou that seemed to of worked.

Thankyou very much
John
