Just a thought. May be the empty space is causing that. Can you just try to remove it and see how it goes?

i installed the theme from theme site and it worked perfectly for me . So confused in your case.

maybe

echo ' »';

should be

echo '»';

i know it's kiddish but i;ve no clue what so ever right now .

I'm thinking index.css, now.

If I remove that file, completely, the linktree's OK.

The link tree is fine on the default theme, it must be something in the custom themes files that is causing the problem  :o

OK, their are several places this could be messed up from,

Are the characters like that on all actions or just some?
Well if its in the theme its a template issue then, that's a bit of good news, narrows things down a bit

It was in the theme, the separator part was wrong

I hadn't looked at index.template until you mentioned on default it worked, I spotted the errors in your attachment and the other repair attempts too lol
