Display forum board on main page

Hello, i'm planning to make a site soon, and integrate a lot of SMF into it. Now i think i can find lots of informations about most of the things i want to do around here, but i have one question for which i didn't find a clear answer.

As you can see in the picture attached, i plan to make some kind of news section on the front page. All fine, but my question is how can i make the forum board display in the same area when clicking the 'Forum' button? I want it to open and display in the red area, not on full screen, losing the left side menus.

Do i have to use a portal mode out there or can i just integrate it in my own custom made page?

I would advise you to use a portal.

Yes, that's the best solution for me, wasn't familiar with SMF and/or portals so i started to build it from pretty much 0, but now with Simple Portal i think i'm going to get pretty much a similar lay-out with little effort, thanks anyway.
