How do i make my banner appear

I want to put a banner at the top of my forum, that streches the length of the site, how do i do this and how do i put it in, i have smf 2.0.1.1 the one before rc3, I am using a simple blue theme i just want a banner at the top? Ive tried through the teme settings but it never appears.

Create the banner. Host it somewhere or host it in your cpanel.
Copy the url , add it to admin cpanel >> current theme > Logo url.
