How do I disable links for x amount of posts like this forum does?

Thanks in advance!

Odd, that.

I found this mod, which would do that.

http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=1242

It's only for SMF v1.1.11, though...

I'll keep looking.

pivotraze

Dang, well, if you find something for SMF 2.0RC3, then I will love you forever! :p

I will look in there as soon as I am done mowing ;p Dang grass growing so fast!!! :D

**EDIT**
I noticed this forum uses SMF 2.0 RC3. I'm wondering if anyone knows how they did it? ;)

Someone must. ;)

Not found anything, myself. :(

Tell you what... I'll move this to "Site comments".

The people who know might just see this, there, and help you out! ;)

pivotraze

Thank you :) I would love to have this on my forum, and am looking forward to the answer to all my problems ;)

Thank you so much! I'm assuming this will work with SMF 2.0 RC3 regardless of it saying SMF 2.0 RC2?

Well, I click install mod, and it gives the following error:

Error in Package Installation
At least one error was encountered during a test installation of this package. It is strongly recommended that you do not continue with installation unless you know what you are doing, and have made a backup very recently. This error may be caused by a conflict between the package you're trying to install and another package you have already installed, an error in the package, a package which requires another package that you don't have installed yet, or a package designed for another version of SMF.

Ask your host if they have XML support or not.

Do provide us with your phpinfo.

What is a phpinfo() file?

pivotraze

I opened a support ticket to ask about XML info. I do not know of any other way to find out.

PHP Info link follows:

Ask them to disable safe_mode. That should do it.

I wonder if they will o.0 I hope they will :)

I got a reply (That was fast o.0) and it is as follows:

"We support xml files in general." (there was a bit more, but nothing important)

XML files are supported so yay. Now asked about safe mode.

Woooh! I'm getting bounced back and forth! From SMF 2.0 Support, to Site Comments, and now back to SMF 2.0 Support!! Haha :D

They actually disabled safe mode (Already loving the new host) and I encountered a new error:

"You cannot download or install new packages because the Packages directory or one of the files in it are not writable!"

I know this is in error because (temporarily) I set EVERYTHING in the packages directory to rwxrwxrwx or 777. What??? :(

What it is telling me in the before-install screen:

This topic is resolved, to let you know :)

Pandapoint's Customer Service is amazing, doing everything they could (including shutting off "Safe_Mode") to help me out. It installed flawlessly after a domain change, and I am now running SMF 2.0RC3 with the mod I needed :D

Thanks for all your help!

It says in the SMF Requirements that SMF needs safe_mode off. :P

Actually a host keeps safe_mode off because it is depreciated: http://php.net/manual/en/features.safe-mode.php

Dunno why it was on in the first place. :P

It is a part of the modification installation process. You can go ahead with it.

I'll mark this solved.

Should I bring that up to my server host? Or just leave it be? (For normal SMF usage (posting, PM, etc... is it fine for safe mode to be on?)

If they turn it on again, let them know about that link. If not, then just carry on. I doubt you will be able to carry on with safe_mode on, that is the reason it is in the requirements. :P

You might want to link them to the SMF requirements page to double check if everything is available for you.

Just got the following reply:

QuoteWe have turned it on again. Please create a new support ticket if there is any further problems.

My new support ticket (as old one was closed):

Okay, so I was reading the requirements for my forum software, and am wondering: Does your server support all the stuff I need?

SMF requires Safe Mode to be off... And it was brought to my attention that safe mode is actually deprecated as of 5.3.2

Safe Mode deprecated page:
