Upgrade from 1.1.11 to 2.0 RC3

If I am using SMF 1.1.11 can I use the package manager and download the zip file for SMF 2.0 RC3 and install that way? Will logins for members and posts remain the same? Or will I hit a problem?

Upgrading SMF

Have a read of that one mate ;)

Short answer, no.

You upload the SMF 2.0 RC3 large upgrade package VIA FTP, over writing the current files, and running the upgrade.php like you did with install.php

Basically, SMF will be updated to 2.0 RC3, keeping all your members, posts, topics, ect. But removing themes, modifications, hacks, ect.
