Upgrade & backup

I am running 1.1.11.  When I tried to upgrade using the upgrade package it did not work.  My question is this, if I back-up my forum, do a fresh install of 2.0XX, can I then use the back-up?  Also, I have searched the boards looking for something that shows me how to recover my forum from a back-up but I did not find anything.  How does one do this?

Yes you can back up all the files and the database then upgrade, if you then want to go back go into phpmyadmin upload the sql file and the old files. That should work fine, well i think that is what you want?
