Hi,
I am using smf version 2.0 RC3.
I have changed the domain and hosting of my forum. First, my domain was like www.abc.com then now forum.xyz.com. I restored database through phpmyadmin and upload all files of forum to the new website forum.xyz.com to the forums directory and delete install.php and all *.sql file. I also uploaded repair_settings.php to the forums directory. After execute repair_settings.php file, I gave all info that required and then clicked on Save Settings button but following "500 Internal Server error" occured:

Internal Server Error

Please contact the server administrator, [email protected] and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

I think if you import your DB before you install the installation itself corrupts the DB.
This worked for me
1) create db with MySQL database wizard
2)install SMF
3)import DB
Never argue with an Idiot like myself, they just drag you down to their level then beat you with experience.

For a 500 error, there should always be a log entry in the server logs. If you don't have one, please turn to your host.
