Howdy!
No matter what i do, I cannot get smf to install on my one.com server/webhotell, and the support in there don't seem to help much.
What they did say that might be helpfull is that "an installer won't be able to connect to the site/ftp form a script".
I have made all files and folders 777 and I have also tried to make the two smf/smf_ folders before starting installation.

I have searched the forum for help, but the posts i've found stating problem has been solved, have not described the solution.

I really like the forum and want to be able to install it, but I'm all stuck here.
Does anyone recognize my problem and can help me out?

When you say "I cannot get smf to install", you don't give us anything to go on.

What happens, when you try to install?

forumfjott

ok :)
I run the install.php file and installation starts. On page 2 where I'm to write Server, ID, password I get this message:

Quoteritical Error!
The installer was unable to access the "smf" database. With some hosts, you have to create the database in your administration panel before SMF can use it. Some also add prefixes - like your username - to your database names.

We'll take it from there...

Have you created a database? have you supplied the correct database name etc?

i have only created a folder named /forum  :-[ and run the install.php

Have to google about databases then... or can you point me to e good site/post about it?

Powerbob

You can create one in your Cpanel (or what ever your host supplies) then you are good to go.

Important! please read the online manual, Link: http://docs.simplemachines.org/

Thanks for HYPERFAST support!!
I'll try to get the grip of creating a database.

EDIT:Wuaaa... so many parameters. Crap...

In your host-provided control panel, you should see a couple of features:  MySQL (sometimes this is MsSQL, but most commonly, MySQL) and phpMyAdmin.  Access MySQL and you should see the option to create a database.  If you hit a snag, give your server a call and they should be able to talk you through it.  You want to hang onto the the name of the database (exactly as it was created), the password for the database and the database server (whether it is "localhost" or something else).  Again, your host can help you with that.  This is the information you will need to enter into the installer to continue.

;)
My apologies, but I am taking a break from accepting PM requests for support.  If I am not currently assisting you, please do not ask as long as this notice is posted.  Thank you.

OK. The solution was to simple. No wonder you techheads didn't think of it :D

My database was the site itself. Insted of typing "smf" in the database field at page 2 in the installer, I simply typed ofxx_org and then it worked like a charm ;D

Forum is up and running!
