I messed up my forum because I wanted to make a new smf install for testing purposes and I ended copying a new SMF install over the current SMF install. I didn't touch the database.

After I fixed the mess, some post dissapeared out of thin air :o

check for instance this topic:

http://curefans.com/index.php?topic=5340.0

some posts are there, and some posts aren't :o

kat

Are they showing if you use the SMF default theme?

dsanchez

not, I just tried the default theme and the posts don't appear (check attach)

Check this topic index also:

http://curefans.com/other-artists-48/

the topic number 5 disappeared, too :o

yes,  i did repair_settings.php and everything was ok

it's just strange that some random posts dissapear. I also found another topic I posted yesterday where the content dissapeared

http://curefans.com/other-artists-48/crystal-castles-world-tour-20102011/

kat

I'd suspect the database.

Have you tried going to Forum Maintenance and repairing?

Recount all forum totals and statistics?

dsanchez

yes, I did all that, nothing :(

hopefully I have a backup from yesterday so I guess the best in this case is to restore to that version?

I just take a look to the database and the content IS there. But for any reason, is not being shown (?)

For instance, the 5th topic here

http://curefans.com/pruebas/smf2/index.php/board,48.0.html

which has no title, has it's title and it's content in the database (smf_messages table)

is there any way to fix this?

I have notice several topics or messages have this problem, even the version from yesterday (???)

dsanchez

Still worried about this. The data is there in the database, but several posts will show nothing in the forum. I tried to fix errors in the admin panel, tried with another theme, still nothing. Any ideas? Does anyone have had the same problem?

kat

Not something I've ever come across.

I'm at a loss as to what else there is to check.

I'll have a ruminate on it...

Finally I managed to solve the problem. I took the latest database and imported it through phpmyadmin but using latin 1 instead utf-8 as charset. That was the problem! ALL the posts missing used latin (special) characters. For instance, if the word "canción" was included, it wouldn't show the whole post because of the accent over the "o" :o

It's very weird and I don't know if something like this should affect a whole post.

After importing the database in latin 1 I used a fresh install. Now I am just fixing some little trouble with certain mods but the main problem is solved! 8)

WoW!

Who'd've thought?

Thanks for letting us know, man!

That might come in handy, if we find someone else with the same problem.

I'd've never thought of that.
