In preparation for an upgrade to RC4, I want to take my forum (www.xxxxxx.com/smf) and place a copy of it for testing at www.yyyyyy.com/smf.

I did this with no issues. I Also created an empty database and imported a copy of my original. I Was able to verify with phpadmin it worked fine.

I then uploaded and ran the repair_Settings.php and cleaned up the path as per the recommendations shown.

I tried to run the forum at www.yyyyyy.com/smf and I'm getting 404 Page not found error for www.yyyyyy.com/smf/forum/ now.

Did I miss a step??

regards, Mike.

You put a copy of your forum at www.yyyyyy.com/smf?  Then why are you trying to access it at www.yyyyyy.com/smf/forum?  It appears that you might want to take another look at the path to the copy.   You might even have to run repair_settings again.

There is no /forum subdirectory on either test or production domains. The only difference should be the domain name.

I have PortaMx installed which I think is causing that?

forum location is http://www.xxxxxxxx.com/smf
smf directory is  '....../smf/

I've recreated the same under www.yyyyyy.com

I havent specified '/smf/forum/' but it goes there i think as as result of having PortaMX installed (on both prod and test domains). I've gone through the configuraiton options of PortaMx and not seeing any paths to be configured. I've also scoured my production site for the word forum in either a subdirectory or file, but dont see it, yet when I go to my production site the portamx front page is at xxxxxxx.com/smf and when I click on the forum button it takes me to xxxxxxx.com/smf/forum (which is the /smf Index without portamx installed).

I've run the repair_settings.php multiple times. It's using the recommended values.

You may want to ask the question on their dedicated support site.  Have you installed PortaMx on the test site as well?

yes I Was/am considering asking there, but figured the bigger audience is here.

It's not a question of 'installing'. It's copying the current forum to a test site, PortaMx included.

thanks for reply Jim, at least someone answered :)

Then there must be something in the PortaMx setup that didn't come across.  I can't think of what it would be, probably because I don't use the software.

Just a thought, did you have an .htaccess file on the domain that you copied from that might be redirecting to the wrong site now?

thanks, I just checked but the .htaccess did not get copied over (only the /smf sub-dir) and no redirects in there that could affect it. Appreciate the thought though. I've posted on PortaMx as well.

problem solved.

there was a 2nd .htaccess file in my /smf folder that I Was not aware of. In there was some rewrite commands for my simpleSEF mod.

Once I copied that over as well, it worked. Thanks JimM for your help.
